GirlsGetSET

GirlsGetSET GirlsGetSET is an exciting UK scheme aimed at showing girls in years 9-13 what Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) are all about.

The scheme is designed as a platform from which GE can reach out to local schools and promote the career opportunities engineering provides. Through School visits, events, competitions and mentoring we aim to provide an insight into the engineering profession.

The next gen is in motion ๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Last week, Gold Award students stepped into the world of engineering at the Baker Hughes, Bridge of Don site โ€” and showed up with energy, creativity, and ambition.

From building rigs and personal brands to networking with leaders and stepping into real roles, they didnโ€™t just learnโ€ฆ they leveled up.

The goal? Confidence.
The result? A room full of future talent ready to take on anything.

Huge shoutout to everyone who made it happen โ€” this is what opening doors really looks like. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

Weโ€™ve officially launched GirlsGetSET in Abu Dhabi! ๐ŸŒŸ

Another country, another milestone โ€” and another powerful step toward inspiring and empowering girls to pursue careers in STEM. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

Our Baker Hughes volunteers kicked off the programme at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi with Session 1 of the 4-part series:

๐Ÿ’ก A masterclass on Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS) and its critical role in reducing emissions. The girls came prepared, having completed pre-work on the greenhouse effect โ€” and brought incredible energy, curiosity, and thoughtful questions.

It was an engaging, hands-on session delivered by inspiring volunteers who brought engineering to life and sparked real excitement about the possibilities of STEM careers.

We canโ€™t wait to share more updates in the coming weeks as the girls continue their journey โ€” and as GirlsGetSET expands its impact around the world. ๐ŸŒโœจ

A new school on the GirlsGetSET UK journey this year, Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed!๐Ÿ’กโœจ

They started off a little shy, but quickly gained confidence, asking thoughtful questions about career paths and real experiences in STEM. After some speed networking, we wrapped up with a fast-paced paper tower challenge that sparked creativity (and some very impressive designs!).

The group is already excited for the upcoming masterclass later this week!

Huge thanks to our amazing volunteersโ€”your passion for STEM was truly infectious. ๐Ÿ’™

Another amazing kick-off session with Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School โ€” now in their second year running GirlsGetSET to inspire more girls to explore careers in STEM!

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ Science teacher Miss Christopher shared, โ€œTo encourage more of our female students to enhance their science skills and consider careers in STEM, we kicked off this yearโ€™s programme with fifteen Year 9 students meeting leaders from Baker Hughes. The girls learned about pathways into STEM and then put their creativity to the test by designing bridges that could withstand heavy weights. Their teamwork was fantastic!โ€

๐ŸŽ‰ Huge thanks to our incredible volunteers for leading the session โ€” what a brilliant start to the year!

Launch week = success! ๐Ÿš€
Our UK Baker Hughes team kicked off their intro sessions with the new cohort, and the girls at Lliswerry High wasted no time speed networking with mentors and discovering the possibilities in STEM careers.

The highlight? The paper tower challenge.
Tallest? Most intricate?
There was creativity, chaos, failure, and LOTS of laughter โ€” exactly how learning should be. ๐Ÿ™Œโœจ

Big shoutout to the volunteers who showed up and made an impact, and to Shawney and Mr. Marshall for inspiring the girls to come back for year two of the programme. We love to see it. ๐Ÿ’›

Celebrating STEM in Newcastle! ๐ŸŽ‰

We had an amazing time at the GirlsGetSET celebration event, where curiosity met creativity in a brand-new STEM activity exploring the science of oil discovery and production.

The day also included:
๐Ÿ† Awards for enthusiasm and achievement
๐Ÿญ A behind-the-scenes site tour into real-world STEM careers
๐Ÿ’ฌ Inspiring connections with mentors and peers

It was incredible to see these young minds light up with ideas and questions ๐Ÿ’ก โ€” proof of how powerful hands-on learning can be in sparking future STEM careers.

Huge thanks to our facilitators, volunteers, and of course the brilliant students who made this day unforgettable!
