This we take a look back at last years Parent/Carer WellChild award winner Mandy, and her story💜

Mandy is a devoted mum to four children, including Grace, who has cerebral palsy. Balancing her own family’s needs, Mandy has also raised funds for Grace’s life-changing surgery, co-founded a charity and continues to organise community activities. Known for her compassion and determination, she has made a lasting difference to countless families, always without seeking recognition.

This Carers Week, we’re recognising the vital role of parents and carers looking after children with serious and complex health needs.

The WellChild Family Tree is an expanding community of families across the UK with children with complex medical needs. It allows parents and carers to connect with others who understand, offering support, advice, and friendship 💜

Joining is completely free, and it opens the door to a nationwide network of peer support through both online and face-to-face groups, events, and activities.

On Saturday, children, young people and parent carers supported by WellChild came together for a fun filled day at Chester Zoo. The children loved meeting Chester Zoo's Snow Leopard Mascot, Layla, and enjoyed our puzzle trail around the zoo. 💜

A huge thank you to Creed Foodservice for the delicious snacks for the families, to volunteer Holly, WellChild Nurses Flo and Amanda and to the amazing volunteers from Speedy Hire who helped make the day possible. A huge thank you also to The Saloman Foundation for generously funding this event. Without them, this incredible day for our families would not be possible. Thanks also goes to Total Merchandise who kindly donated cuddly lions for the children to adopt. Your support is invaluable.

Events like this are a vital part of WellChild’s work, offering families caring for a child with complex medical needs, the chance to enjoy quality time together and to meet other families in similar situations to themselves.
