Our new laser cutter is a major upgrade from our previous unit. This one is triple the size, triple the power, and has way more advanced features. A huge thanks to everyone who contributed to our fundraiser, and to the team of volunteers who turned up at a moment's notice to manoeuvre it into position.

We have launched a fundraiser for a new laser cutter! Please feel free to share this link, including with employers (note that we would be open to wider sponsorship arrangements if employers would like to talk to us).

Feel free to sponsor through the GoFundMe, though we will primarily be using it for publicly tracking donated amounts and to save fees would encourage donations directly to the Hackspace account (especially more generous donations!), which I can provide if you drop us a message.

We are aware that this is an ambitious goal and if we don't reach the target will look at reducing the specification of what we buy, repurpose the funds for existing equipment, or returning donations.

Last week one of our members took a broken coffee table and made a new base from their neighbour's old front door. Lovely timber that would have otherwise gone to landfill.

Last night one of our members ran part 1 of a spoon carving workshop, using locally sourced green wood. We learnt proper knife technique and started carving our spoons to rough shape. Next week, we'll continue with carving out the bowl part.

A great time making shavings, and not a single injury 🙌

This week our metalworking room-lead has been putting the milling attachment for the Emco lathe through its paces. With all the required tools having a home, close to hand, nothing *should* ever get lost. The first chips are looking good, so inductions for members will be available soon.
