Exciting news from The Bugatti Trust! 🚗💡
We are proud to announce our sponsorship of two scholarships through the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) awarded last week to James Lockwood and James Allen— two exceptional young engineers shaping the future of innovation.
Chairman Allan Rippon and Curator Angela Hucke who leads the Trust’s STEM initiatives, were delighted to meet both scholars at the IET Scholars Awards held at IET London headquarters in Savoy Place WC2. A wonderful and inspiring welcome to the awards by the IET’s Operations Director Warren Bath and the opportunity to catch up with Ana Lovick who is our work partner at the organisation. We look forward to welcoming the two Bugatti Trust bursary recipients at Prescott soon as guests of one of our upcoming talks.
The Bugatti Trust remains dedicated to inspiring the next generation of engineers by supporting education, preserving engineering heritage and promoting excellence in STEM — continuing the innovative spirit of Ettore Bugatti.

Verre et Vitesse’ Historic Lalique Car Mascot Exhibition The Bugatti Trust is proud to welcome a special guest exhibition devoted to the artistry of RenĂ© Lalique’s automotive mascots as often seen adorning the hoods of Bugattis and other prestigious marques of the early 20thcentury. Bugatti and Lalique represent the pinnacle of early 20th century artistry though expressed through very different media and the new Lalique display will be complemented by the Bugatti Trust’s exhibits dedicated to the oeuvres of Ettore, Rembrandt, Jean and Carlo Bugatti. Opening on April 2nd, ‘Verre et Vitesse’ will be on display to the visiting public until May 29th with full admission details available on www.bugatti-trust.co.uk
Expertly curated by specialist John Nemeth, the new exhibition will present a privately owned collection of 46 exquisite historic Lalique mascots including the magnificent ‘Renard’ or Fox mascot dated 1931 and the rare ‘Hibou’ or Owl from the same year. The breathtaking ‘Petite Libellule’ or small dragonfly from c. 1928 and the ‘TĂȘte de Paon’ or peacock head in blue glass from the same period to name a few more of the rarely seen pieces will sit alongside the iconic ‘Victoire’ or Spirit of the Wind and the more familiar cockerels from the late 20s and of course the famous ‘Vitesse’ or Speed glass mascot from ca. 1929. John Nemeth, who curated the collection on behalf of the owner, said “this is a unique opportunity to view an example of not only every model of car mascot or hood ornament produced by RenĂ© Lalique in the 1920s and 30s but every variant of every model. Assembling and exhibiting a collection of R. Lalique car mascots on this scale has not been done before in the UK and likely not in the world. The heart of this collection (some 30 models) was previously shown at The MusĂ©e Lalique in Alsace as part of their ‘Lalique and the Art of Travel’ exhibition in 2016. This exhibition at The Bugatti Trusts adds a further 16 model types to fully showcase the catalogued works of RenĂ© Lalique.” For more information regarding the works and car mascot designs of RenĂ© Lalique please visit www.rlaliquemascots.com

Happy International Women’s Day 2026! To mark the day we highlight some of the remarkable women who shaped Bugatti’s prewar history.

In the 1920s and 1930s, drivers such as Hellé Nice, Elizabeth Junek, Anne-Cécile Rose Itier, Countess Margot von Einsiedel and Emma Munz competed in Bugatti Grand Prix cars, challenging expectations of who belonged in the paddock and at the wheel. Their achievements demonstrated that precision, endurance, and race craft were not defined by gender but by talent and determination.

Today, The Bugatti Trust Museum and Study Centre preserves the photographs, drawings, sketches and archives that connect us to these stories, including materials linked to the development of the various types and the all-important drivers, engineers and designers.

Material in our archives documents that HellĂ© Nice claimed first place in the 1929 Grand Prix FĂ©minin, the first all-women Grand Prix. Her incredible speeds of 198kph in her Omega-Six earned her the name “the fastest woman in the world”. This victory prompted Ettore Bugatti to invite HellĂ© Nice to drive his cars in future Grand Prix races. She later became known as “the Bugatti Queen”.

By studying this history and through our educational outreach work and sponsorship, we aim to inspire new generations of engineers, designers, historians, and enthusiasts to see motorsport and automotive as well as design innovation as spaces open to everyone.

The IWD 2026 Give To Gain Campaign encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration.

Coventry University’s Automotive and Transport Design Students Visit The Bugatti Trust

This week we were thrilled to welcome students from Coventry University’s internationally renown Automotive and Transport Design course to The Bugatti Trust. The group visited to gain insight and inspiration for their forthcoming design challenge — a project that asks them to create a modern interpretation of Ettore Bugatti’s ultimate vision of the city car of the future: small, light, elegant, efficient, and perfectly suited for city use.

Taking inspiration from the remarkable Bugatti Type 68 — an experimental 1940s design that showcased advanced engineering with its supercharged 318cc four-cylinder engine and exquisite, compact “Baby Atlantic” styling or the alternative open two seater styling seen on the Type 68 in the Musee National de l’Automobile— students are invited to explore how Ettore’s pioneering spirit can be reimagined for today’s world of sustainable mobility. During the visit, the Trust’s team provided valuable insights into the historical and technical aspects of the Type 68, along with materials from the Trust’s archives and key reference works. Discussions ranged from the Bugatti family’s design heritage to the ongoing balance between luxury, affordability, and responsible innovation in today’s automotive landscape.

A heartfelt thank you to Aamer Mahmud, Course Director ATD Coventry University, Alan Barrett, Co-course Director MA ATD Coventry University, and their students for their enthusiasm and commitment to this new collaborative design module and for the thoughtful questions and conversations during the day. We look forward to following the students’ design journey in the months ahead and sharing updates on their modern Bugatti Type 68 interpretations. Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for highlights and, later this year, an opportunity to view the finished projects— a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and Ettore Bugatti’s timeless pursuit of innovation. We can’t wait to see the creative concepts that come to life from this historical-meets-futuristic challenge!
