Pop-Up Christmas Workshops at the Charlton Kings Repair Café

We’re adding a festive twist to our next two Repair Cafés! On Saturday 18th October and Saturday 15th November, alongside our usual repair services, we’ll be running special Pop-Up Christmas Workshops.

Bring along anything Christmas-related that’s broken or needs a tune-up – from carving knives to Christmas lights, kitchen gadgets to festive outfits – and our volunteers will do their best to help.

💚 Usual repair services include:
🔪 Knife & tool sharpening
🧵 Fabric & textile repairs
⚡ Small electrical repairs
🔧 Non-electrical household repairs

Get your festive gear ready the sustainable way – no need to buy new!

Bring your broken items along to Stanton Hall and our amazing volunteers will do their best to repair them. Save money, reduce waste, and keep things out of landfill. Plus pop up Christmas Workshop - bring your broken christmas lights and holey christmas jumpers!

Join Clean Air Cheltenham and local residents at Planted CK for this open meeting about how we can improve air quality in Charlton Kings.

What a lovely evening of preserving!

Last night’s Preserving Workshop at Planted CK was absolutely brilliant - such a lovely, friendly atmosphere and so much learning (and tasting!) packed into one evening.

A huge thank you to Jane from Wiggly Charity and her daughter, who were amazing at showing us the many ways to preserve our homegrown and foraged produce.

Together we:
🍇 Made plum jam, hedgerow jelly and pickled cabbage
🍸 Learned how to make sloe gin and sampled some delicious damson gin
🍏 Tasted crab apple jelly with scented geranium

It was a wonderful celebration of autumn harvests, community spirit and the joy of making something you can enjoy for months to come.

Thank you to everyone who came along - and to Wiggly, Planted, and Charlton Kings Parish Council for supporting this event.

Why the River Chelt Matters

The River Chelt is more than a stream through our parish - it’s a living ecosystem. Over the past year the Guardians of the River Chelt, the University of Gloucestershire and local volunteers have been testing water quality to understand how healthy it really is.

On Thursday 16th October, come along to Stanton Hall (7:30–9:00pm) to hear the results, learn why it matters, and find out how you can help protect our local river.

Another Brilliant Repair Café on Saturday - Thank You!

On Saturday we held our September Charlton Kings Repair Café at Stanton Hall and it was another fantastic afternoon of fixing, chatting and community spirit.

Here’s what our amazing volunteers worked on:
🔪 22 knives & tools sharpened
🧵 8 fabric & textile repairs
🔧 5 non-electrical household items repaired
⚡ 4 electrical items repaired
💍 2 jewellery repairs

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and to our brilliant team of volunteers who make it all possible.

📅 Next Repair Café: Saturday 18th October, 1.30–4.00pm at Stanton Hall

We’ll have all the usual repair services plus a special Pop-Up Christmas Workshop - perfect for getting festive-ready. Bring your carving knives, Christmas lights, kitchen gadgets, or anything you’d like to have sorted before the holidays.

Wildlife Gardening Event – Cheltenham

Want to make your garden more wildlife-friendly?

Hosted by the eco groups of Pip and Jim’s and St Peter’s Leckhampton, this evening will feature:

✨ Gloucestershire Beekeepers Association
✨ News of local wildlife initiatives
✨ Displays, stalls and insect-friendly plants

Go along, get inspired, and find practical ideas to make your garden a haven for pollinators, birds and other wildlife.

🌼🌱 This September, the Friends of QEII Park teamed up with CBC’s Green Parks Team to give the park’s wildflower meadow a big boost!

On 10th September, areas of grass were cut and cleared, and just two days later, the ground was raked and sown with around 25kg of locally gathered wildflower seeds – including yarrow, bedstraw, yellow rattle, knapweed, scabious, and more. Some even came from Pittville Park, thanks to QEII Friends!

🌸 These seeds should burst into bloom next spring, creating a haven for pollinators and a seed source for other parks in the years ahead.

👏 Huge thanks to Parish Councillor Tim Gilbert and everyone who volunteered and took part — your time and effort will help the park thrive for years to come.

This work forms part of CBC’s wider strategy to improve biodiversity across the town’s parks – and we can’t wait to see the results! 🌿💚
