June is officially Pride Month, reminding us all that love is love.

Our society still has a way to go before social equality is the norm. Every day at our Guest Hub we strive to create a place of tolerance and acceptance.

We accept our guests for who they are. We don’t ask questions and we don’t judge.

This is the marvellous Jen Cockett, who is running 100km as part of the Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge on 13 June to raise money for us.

Jen says: "Cheltenham Open Door is an incredibly hardworking, local charity who provide much needed support and help for those going through difficult times in their lives. Willans LLP have been supporting the charity over the past 2 years, and so when I decided to take on this 100km challenge it seemed fitting to fundraise for Cheltenham Open Door as well.”

Visit to Highgrove for guests and volunteers.

A huge thank you to Highgrove Gardens for inviting some of our amazing volunteers and guests for a special guided tour this Spring.

Despite the odd raindrops, everyone had a fabulous day exploring the beautiful gardens at the private residence of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate the incredible dedication of our volunteers, and to thank them - we simply couldn’t do what we do without them.

We were proud to be shortlisted in the Charity of the Year category alongside some stiff competition at the recentSoGlos Lifestyle & Community Awards.

We didn't win but here are two of our trustees – Cheryl Whiting and Phil Rawlins – at the ceremony. Congratulations to Cheltenham Animal Shelter for coming out on top. They do so much for the community, including our guests, and we are delighted for them.

Congratulations also to GRASAC which was highly commended in the category.

Leonie is our new resident psychotherapist, supporting both our guests and team with wellbeing and mental health care at our Guest Hub in Cheltenham.

With her kind, thoughtful nature and practical approach to therapy, Leonie brings warmth and support to the work we do.

We’re absolutely delighted to have her spending regular time with us each week.

Manor of Ashley Lodge visit to Open Door...

Last week, Open Door’s Liz had the pleasure of meeting Worshipful Brother Mike and Charity Steward, Steve from the Manor of Ashley Lodge, who have chosen Cheltenham Open Door as their charity to support throughout the coming year.

We are only able to provide the food and services that we offer our guests because of the generosity of people who give to us. We rely totally on donations to carry out our work.

During their visit, we were able to explain the importance of our charity to our local community, to both Mike and Steve and thank them in person for the donations from their lodge.

Medical access for our guests matters.

Making a GP appointment is not always straight forward for many of our guests – especially those who are homeless. That’s why having regular access to a doctor at Cheltenham Open Door is so important – someone who can provide medical advice in a private environment, give out prescriptions and advice, and treat our guests in a place of safety, calm and trust.

A huge thank you to our volunteer doctors, Dr Steve and Dr Matt from Spa Private Medical, who regularly give their time to see our guests. Along with our visiting NHS nurses, cancer specialists, podiatrist and psychotherapist – we always put the wellbeing of our guests as our top priority.
