From The Ground Up - Cheltenham

From The Ground Up - Cheltenham Festival of Sustainability Art Competition: Local primary schools in Cheltenham are invited to enter an art competition themed on “It’s a Bug’s Life”.

A one day Sustainable Festival, held at St Philip & St James’ Church, Leckhampton to inform and encourage Cheltenham residents to explore and engage more about how they can make a difference in their home, business/work, life and community. Everything comes from the soil and, it is from the ground up, that we will make the essential changes to ensure a more sustainable future:

Businesses: A Sustainable Festival showcasing local/regional companies who are either offering sustainable and green products/services for the public benefit and purchase or through their practices making changes to become a more sustainable organisation. It will be an opportunity for companies to demonstrate how viable it is to make our homes, places of work, lives and communities more sustainable and thereby reduce our impact on resources at all levels. Charities/Not for Profit: We all know how vulnerable our Earth is and, how essential it is to engage with people at all ages, to do their bit: from wildlife in the garden, buying seasonally, locally (and ideally organically), actively connecting with, and protecting, the natural world around us, the future through children’s education and career choices, and engaging with the local council’s plans around the changes that are being implemented now and in the longer-term. Selected paintings will be exhibited on the day. Speakers: True to Cheltenham’s reputation as a “festival town”, we will invite speakers. During the day, we there will be talks, workshops and interactive events. The festival will culminate in a selected panel discussion in the evening, with audience participation through a question/answer feature.

Whatever our beliefs, at this time of chaos, I thought this poem hits the spot! It 'beautifully illustrates hope as a resilient and ever-present force in our lives'.

Hope is the Thing with Feathers

"Hope" is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

(Emily Dickinson)

The Eternal Song - film showing followed by discussion
Tuesday 31st March 6.30pm – 9pm, Cheltenham Quaker
Meeting House, Warwick Place, GL52 2NP
All welcome/free event
The Eternal Song: Ancestral Wisdom for Collective Healing is a cinematic journey through timeless lands and Indigenous cultures. Voices from across generations and traditions invite us to witness the enduring scars of colonisation on lands and peoples,
and the healing pathways carried through ancestral wisdom.
The film grapples with colonial legacies, intergenerational trauma, and the culture of separation that fragments our lives. It reveals how modernity severs our connection to nature, each other, and the ancestral realm, while feeding us empty promises of
salvation, unlimited consumption and economic growth, and individual happiness.
As we are drawn into the intricate web of kinship and honouring the living presence of
Mother Earth, we awaken a deeper remembering: a sacred dance comes to life and we
begin to hear the eternal song of Life itself, calling us back to belonging.
The film was made by the SAND Community https://scienceandnonduality.com/ as a contribution to a global
conversation about how we might collectively heal from historical traumas and remember our place in the sacred web of life. The trust gained from the indigenous cultures across the world to make the film was cultivated over time through respectful engagement, active listening, and a genuine commitment to honouring
each community’s protocols and wisdom.
The film lasts for 92 minutes. This screening is free but there will
be a collection to support the larger project.

Join SAND to explore beyond truths, binary thinking, and individual awakening, honoring the beauty, complexity, and mystery of existence.

If you haven't already done the survey and want to give your feedback, fill it in soon.

We’ve had a really encouraging response to our short survey about nature in Cheltenham so far - and we’re really grateful to everyone who’s taken a few minutes to take part.

What’s coming through is thoughtful and wide-ranging. People are sharing:

- what they value most about nature where they live
- what they’re concerned about, or feel could be better supported
- examples of what’s already happening for nature locally
- ideas about where better connection, support or coordination could help

The survey is open for a little while longer, so if you haven’t had a chance yet, we’d really love to hear your perspective - whether you’re deeply involved in nature, or just care about the place you live.
