From fire to feast: outdoor cooking at Cowley🔥🍳

Thanks to support from National Highways’ Community Legacy Fund, we’ve added four bespoke handcrafted altar fires to Cowley Adventure.

These traditional fires are at the heart of outdoor cooking experiences, giving our residential and activity groups the chance to prepare food together, learn new skills and enjoy the unique experience of cooking outdoors.

As altar fires are no longer available through camping suppliers, we commissioned local iron work specialist Matt from Valley Forge in Stroud to create them specifically for our site.

Beautifully crafted and built to last, these fires will help create countless shared meals, campfire conversations and memories for generations of campers at Cowley Adventure.

A huge thank you to Matt for bringing our vision to life!

Big things are happening at Cowley Adventure!🔥

We’re excited to share some of the improvements made possible through our successful National Highways Community Legacy Fund grant.

From bespoke handcrafted altar fires, to woodland hammocks, an expanded disc golf course and a new stretch tent shelter, the funding has enabled us to invest in facilities that will enhance outdoor experiences for the thousands of young people and groups who visit us each year.

We’re incredibly grateful to National Highways for their support, and to the local craftspeople, suppliers and volunteers who helped turn these ideas into reality.

TSB were back at Cowley Adventure last week for another corporate volunteering day. 🌿

It’s been around 10 years since they first came to the site and (apart from the COVID year) they’ve been back every year since.

It’s always great to see familiar faces back at Cowley Adventure, and we hugely appreciate the teams efforts helping us maintain our well-loved site over the years. 🫶

Our low ropes course is not only a lot of fun but helps participants to learn about team work, problem solving and cooperation, whilst developing their trust, balance and coordination.

Meet Louise! 🙋🏼‍♀️

Louise has been part of the Cowley Adventure team for 5 years as one of our brilliant zip wire instructors! 🌳💚

Louise’s favourite part of the job is seeing children who are nervous at first find the confidence to take the leap – and then queue up to go down the zip wire again and again! Watching that confidence grow never gets old.

When she’s not at Cowley Adventure, Louise is a teacher, a Brownie Unit Leader and District Commissioner in Dursley.

She’s probably watched over 200 children fly down the zip wire over the years, cheering every single one of them on! 🎉

This space sleeps 18 young people and 6 adults, and has a fully equipped kitchen.
