Dear all - URGENT

Due to severe weather the SWEP protocol came into effect (severe weather emergency protocol) to offer shelter to those sleeping rough. This has now come to an end.

However, due to a borderline forecast until the weekend and in order to give staff chance to engage with those who have been accommodated under SWEP, the council will endeavour to continue to provide accommodation for those clients until Monday morning (12th).

Although the SWEP page is active on Street Support Chelmsford this is to provide essential help links to those accommodated outside of Chelmsford needing resources in the following areas. Please see link to Street Support Chelmsford below

👩🏾‍💻 Access to good information, advice and help before things become a crisis is one of the ways that people can take back control and manage some of the worst impacts of the current complex situation we are all trying to navigate. It may be that we have no idea where to start, either to help others find advice or to find it for ourselves and now locally, there is a resource that can help.

💚 Street Support Chelmsford is an online platform that can help people at risk of homelessness find some of the critical information and advice that could help avoid or end the ultimate exclusion of homelessness.

Homelessness is everybody’s business and whilst the vast majority of us will thankfully never have to deal with losing our homes, the people who are at risk might well be people you know or see every day.

Knowledge is power, and good quality reliable advice and information can make a huge difference and help us all to avoid or at least manage a crisis better. Getting help early makes a huge difference; we just need to know what help is out there and how to find it – Street Support Chelmsford

Heartbreaking most recent figures from The Museum of Homelessness

This year, the Museum of Homelessness has collected information on 1,611 deaths in 2024 among people experiencing homelessness.
Last year, they reported 1,474 deaths, and the year before that 1,313. That’s a steady and devastating rise — a 9% increase since last year, and nearly 300 more lives lost since 2022.

Each number represents a person with a story — someone who deserved warmth, safety, and dignity. No one should lose their life because they had nowhere to call home.

At Sanctus, we see every day how vital compassion and connection are. Through meals, showers, clothing, housing and health support, we’re doing all we can to offer safety, care, and hope — but we can’t do it alone.

💛 Let’s honour those we’ve lost by standing up for those still struggling. Together, we can make change happen.

🏆 We’re thrilled to announce that CHESS Homeless and Chelmsford City Council have been shortlisted for the Essex Housing Awards! 🏆

Our Turning Point development — providing 24 self-contained units for homeless adults with a connection to Chelmsford — has been recognised in the category Meeting Housing Need – Specialist Housing.

This project is already changing lives, with residents receiving tailored support to rebuild their futures with hope and stability.
