Go ride - Youth cycle coaching run by Chelmer Cycling Club - Russell Tribley and Matthew Cooke - British Cycling qualified Coach's - Saturday mornings April - November 9am-10.30am

A good turnout for the coaching session this morning - with Matt on hand this week we were able to split into two groups with the younger ones focused on cornering and braking.

The older group returned to the newly swept full car park set up plus focusing on more advanced skills including one hand riding, taking a bottle from a helper plus added bonus utilising the newly installed speed bumps we covered different skills of riding these safely including the finale of bunny-hopping.

Well done everyone.

We continue the Autumn block of coaching tomorrow at Teledyne E2v - hopefully back to the full (swept and repaired) car park.

9:00 to 10:30 for 6-16yrs. May be a bit chilly first thing so layers of clothing and gloves.

*Bonus* In addition to Saturday morning coaching there will be a family ride this week 3rd October, leaving the club HQ in Meteor Way at 12:30pm for a 25 mile ride with a stop at The Snug at High Easter.

We return to Teledyne E2v on Saturday 3rd October from 9:00-10:30.

However they are still repairing the main car park/coaching area and therefore we have been allocated/allowed to use the smaller area immediately to the right as you enter the car park (the area where we were first allocated when we relocated to Teledyne).

The session will therefore be limited to skills based and a tight twisty circuit.

Parents in cars please park in line alongside my van to ensure maximum space utilised for the coaching.

Our youth cycling coaching sessions will resume this Saturday 19th September 2026 at Teledyne E2V employee car park off Waterhouse Lane, Chelmsford, CM1 2UQ.

Sessions are from 9am to 10:30am suitable for 6yr-15 yrs old.

Must be able to cycle and have own bike (racing, MTB or hybrid - no BMX) - suitable for children looking to build confidence riding their bikes in a traffic free environment.

Sessions are free and are led by British Cycling qualified coaches. Club membership (£5) expected after two taster sessions.

No pre booking required. Remember to bring a bike in good working order, cycle helmet, sports clothing (layers), gloves and a drink.

Access to the site is via car or cycle only. There is strictly no pedestrian access by foot to or from the venue.

Another good Cyclo Cross coaching session this morning, making the most of our Springfield course albeit mixing it up a bit riding parts in reverse to shake off familiarity. Focus on adverse camber riding, cornering and bike carrying. We also looked at calmly reinstating a ‘dropped chain’.

Good luck to riders taking part in Round 2 of the Eastern League tomorrow at Lambourne End.

We are pleased to confirm Teledyne have agreed to renew our Agreement to use their employee car park from Saturday 19th September for 7 weeks up to 31st October. As usual coaching sessions will be from 9:00 to 10:30.

In the meantime to fill the gap we will return to Springfield Hall Park tomorrow 12th September from 9:00 to 10:00 for some off road coaching.

*ALSO* there will also be a 25 mile FAMILY ride tomorrow afternoon to Owl on the Hill tearoom at Terling leaving outside the club room in Meteor Way at 1pm (return approach 4pm). Under 14’s must be accompanied by a parent.

A great day for our young riders at the clubs annual Springfield Cyclo Cross event held at Springfield Hall Park on Sunday.

We had Emilia in the Under 10's; a close race between Aleksei, Christopher and John in the Under 12's, Arthur, George and Frank in the Under 14's and Stirling in the Junior race.

Well done everyone, some great riding all in Chelmer kit!

In particular well done to George and Frank in their first ever cycle race, pinning numbers onto their new jerseys and competing with Arthur on the full course which included dismounting and carrying their bikes up two separate flights of steps (being the standout feature of our event). Also well done to Stirling who has now moved up category to the Juniors now having to race for 50 minutes on the full circuit.

After a short break we are pleased to confirm we are back at Teledyne tomorrow 9:00 -10:30 for our youth coaching where Matt will be leading the session.
