Whilst Chelmsford Phoenix doesn’t have formal meetings in the summer, we do have a few socials. Last Thursday, six Phoenix members and six guests paid a visit to Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome. After coffee in the Mess, we were treated to a fascinating and informative tour by Jim, followed by a delicious lunch of sandwiches, sausage rolls and a scone with clotted cream and jam. We then visited the museums and shop at our leisure. A great day out enjoyed by all.

We are taking part in the Rotary Books4Home Initiative. Children's enjoyment of reading is at its lowest levels since records began according to the National Literary Trust. Rotary Books4Home is an exciting opportunity for Rotary members to support schools and spark a love of reading. We are also supporting the environment as we are recycling books as opposed to them going to landfill. We are collecting 285+ books for Rodings Primary School in Leaden Roding. These are for ages 5 to 11 and need to be good quality used books. Have you got children or grandchildren who have books they no longer need? Then the Rotary Club of Chelmsford Phoenix can find a use for them. Please contact [email protected] if you have any books to donate.

We have had a busy December. We entered a tree in the Writtle Tree Festival. We had a lovely Christmas meal at The White Hart Inn, Margaretting Tye. We sang carols in High Chelmer and raised £441.47 for our charities. We helped Mildmay Rotary with their Santa Sleigh. We had a lovely social evening at one of our members houses. We are preparing 22 boxes of food for our Donate A Dinner project for Home Start. Merry Christmas and best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Last weekend, Phoenix Rotary Club held a quiz night at Writtle Sports and Social Club. The hall was packed with 16 teams and quizmaster, Rob Peters, put us through our paces with a Food and Drink themed quiz. Graham Warner and his team, pictured, were the winners. We raised £1214.60 for Farleigh Hospice and other local Rotary charities.
