Thank you to everyone who attended the talk tonight with The Flower Farm from Denstroude. Becky from The Flower Farm told us about their ethos, ‘Home Grown, Not Flown’.
Flowers are grown in Kent, having a longer vase life and creating a lower carbon footprint.
We learnt about the flowers they grow from seed, not using pesticides, but drawing on nature. The Flower Farm have a no dig policy, so they can create a strong biodiversity, their methods retain moisture which is important with our increasing temperatures in the UK. ‘Pick Your Own’ is 80% of their business and has created a wellbeing environment for visitors. They also run floristry, textiles and pottery workshops.
You can buy The Flower Farm flowers from Faversham Market every Friday.

Good afternoon everyone. Hope you are all coping and keeping hydrated in this really warm weather. 🌞

Our next speaker will be The Flower Farm from Denstroude - ‘Seed to Vase’. The talk offers inspiration for both gardeners and budding florist.
The Flower Farm is a small family run farm nestled in the Garden of England, Kent. Growing a stunning array of seasonal British flowers throughout June to October.
The Flower Farm opt for an organic way of growing and utilise the “no dig” method of gardening.

Thank you so much to our speaker tonight Philip Oostenbrink.
Philip spoke about his love of gardening as a child and his work now as Head Gardener at Walmer Castle. Philip is also a gold medal winner at Hampton Court Flower Show.
We learnt the history of the Walmer Castle and gardens and how the change of Lord Warden influenced the design and planting. Philip spoke about his book “The Jungle Garden” and we saw where these ‘jungle’ plants are planted at Walmer Castle.
