Chatteris In Bloom

Chatteris In Bloom We are a group of volunteers who work with the community and local business to help brighten our town. Registered Charity Number 1218593. In 2009 we got gold!

A small group of people met together in 2005 to form a committee to enter Chatteris into the Anglia in Bloom competition. In the first year, their efforts resulted in a bronze award. 2006 saw Chatteris obtaining a Silver award in the judging. 2007 brought a silver gilt as did 2008.

To whoever thought it was funny to tear the arms off the fireman and vandalise it plus take the high vis jacket off it ,a lot of time and effort went into making this there is cctv on it ,we are giving you a chance to come forward and help us fix it as if we get a good enough picture we will be printing it to show everyone who done it to identify them Not only have you upset the volunteers who made it but the many people who were having photos with it children especially,if this sort of behaviour continues we will be thinking twice about adding installations to our displays for people’s enjoyment

And.. breathe!

It was with enormous pride that our volunteers today had the honour of showing two of the RHS - Royal Horticultural Society's judges around our town today.

Lesley and Ann had travelled from Henley on Thames yesterday afternoon, and this morning got to meet our team properly. From a presentation at the town council office we met Street Pride volunteers, youths from the Chatty Teens group and their planting patch, our Vicar Wendy showed the flower display at the Chatteris Parish Church, before we met RBL and other individuals at our war memorial. Then, more volunteers across Market Hill, the Chatteris Museum, the staff and residences of The Gables Care Home, volunteers at Wenny Roundabout community garden, the dry beds at the library, Jubilee Gardens, the fantastic artwork and planting at the Old Auction Yard, Amber Howie Art's creativity bringing life to older shops, our community hub of the Chatteris King Edward Community Centre , our sensory garden at the junction of Station Street and Station Road, and our Cottage Garden at the top of Huntingdon Road.

Dominating the morning - the drought conditions and our determination to do the best we can with it. And in the afternoon, with refreshments taken, a wall of heat hit us as we began our journey back to Huntingdon for their onward travel to Blooming Haddington and their final stop.

There are, frankly, far too many people and groups who helped make this day happen for us to name them but we thank them all and hope they can celebrate with us in our collective achievements across the town.

Are you interested in helping? Joining a team, or even operating in your own hours to a common cause? We're always looking for new people both on the ground across town and on our committee - we're a charity and you will need to give your time for free as we plough our money into what we do. Our door is open - drop us a message if you're interested in meeting us.

Haddington - over to you - they're a lovely couple of judges - best of luck!

And that’s.. a wrap!

Bar last-second “titivating” tomorrow morning ahead of our 9am Britain in Bloom tour, that’s about as much as we can do for the town.

There will always be one last w**d, one last dead-heading, one last cigarette-end. We’ve dug, planted, watered, sanded, painted, tidied, nurtured, sweated and sworn. And we’ve been seriously challenged by the climate this year.

A huge thank you as always to our volunteers and those of you who would never even consider yourselves a volunteer but helped us out in one way or another. Another huge thank you to the many who have not been involved directly but have supported us again in one way or another.

The judges are here this evening, and are very friendly so feel free to give them a welcoming wave.

Fingers crossed tomorrow goes smoothly and successfully 🤞.
