What is a Tenants’ Association?
A Tenants' Association (TA) is an organisation formed by leaseholders of the same property or estate, to represent members on important matters and to act on their behalf. Members must hold long leases from the same landlord, on similar terms and be contributing to the same costs by way of a service charge.
Why Tenants’ Association is needed?
A strong tenants’ association can force a landlord to listen; as a group, the tenants can have more leverage to negotiate, file complaints and get their voices heard.
Our aims as the Tenants’ Association are to:
- Promote membership to all people eligible to join.
- Promote equal opportunities within the community.
- Improve the housing, environment and other services in the area.
- Be non-party political.
- Promote social, welfare, recreational and training activities for the benefit of members of the Association.
- Represent the majority view of the members.
- Build and encourage a partnership and improve communication between the Y&Y Management, Landlord and Leaseholders.
- Provide regular information to all members.
- Regularly consult all members on issues. Monitor the Association, its work, finances and membership.
