βοΈπ» Another Beautiful Day at Burntwood Be A Friend Community Garden! π»βοΈ
What a fantastic day we've had today! With the sun shining and the garden looking wonderful, it was the perfect opportunity to get outdoors, enjoy some fresh air, and continue building something special for our community.
If you'd told me six months ago, during all the planning and preparation for this project, that one of our biggest challenges would be having too much water, I'd have said you were mad! π°π
Like many people, I thought we'd be worrying about not having enough water and needing more hosepipes. Instead, our first IBC tank has absolutely blown its lid with the amount of rainwater we've collected! π§
Today we connected our second IBC tank and created a system that allows the water to be shared between both tanks. Looking ahead, we'll be exploring funding opportunities over the next 12 months to add another two tanks, helping us become even more sustainable and prepared for the future. β»οΈπ
A huge thank you goes to Rob and Steve, my trusty right and left-hand men, who spent the day finishing another planter ready for a generous donation of soil from one of our neighbours. ππͺ΄
The planter will soon be filled and ready for growing, helping us continue transforming the space into a thriving community garden.
Meanwhile, Barry and Ben spent the day working side by side. Barry has gained valuable planting experience through his voluntary work elsewhere and wanted to pass on some of that knowledge. π±π€
Together they planted beautiful geraniums, fragrant jasmine that will eventually climb over our archway, and a raspberry cane kindly donated this morning by a lovely local couple.
We would like to say a massive thank you to them for their generosity and support. Donations like these help our garden continue to grow and flourish. β€οΈπ
What makes this garden so special isn't just the plants we grow.
It's the people. π
It's the friendships. π
It's the teamwork. π€
It's the laughter. π
It's seeing volunteers develop confidence, learn new skills, build resilience, and realise they are capable of far more than they thought.
For many of us, spending time outdoors, connecting with nature, and working together has a positive impact on our mental health and wellbeing. Every session helps build confidence, create new opportunities, and strengthen our community.
Of course, no gardening session would be complete without a well-earned sit down and a slice of cake! π°π
A huge thank you, as always, to Lidl Burntwood for kindly donating today's cakes. Your support is always appreciated by our volunteers. β€οΈ
Another fantastic day.
Another step forward.
Another reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together. π»βοΈπ±
