Bad news… our community-funded responder car is VERY poorly.

The first diagnosis was brutal — £11,000 for a new gearbox. That would have been game over - RIP car.

But… enter First Responder Higgsy, who’s worked some magic and found a garage in Weymouth willing to repair it for around £4,000. Still a hefty hit, but at least it’s a lifeline rather than a write-off.

The repair will take a big chunk out of our coffers. Thanks to your incredible generosity over the years, we do have the funds — but as Tim our Treasurer points out, the bank balance is going to look a bit… windswept.

While the car is off the road, we’ll still be responding — just using our own vehicles to keep the service going.

Thank you, as always, for backing us. Every donation helps keep us on the road (literally). We really couldn’t do this without you.

Yesterday was our annual Education Day run by Tom from SWASFT.

We were delighted to be joined by Michelle and Peter from Chard, and Chris from Lyme Regis, spending the day refreshing skills, sharing experiences and making sure we’re ready to respond when our community needs us most.

We’re all volunteers, and days like this make such a difference — keeping our knowledge current, our confidence high, and our teamwork strong. 🚑💚

🚨 DID YOU KNOW…
Our responder car — including every service, tyre, drop of fuel, and all running costs — is 100% funded by community donations.

When the car was replaced recently, it took just six months to raise the money — an incredible show of generosity and proof of how much our community values the service. ❤️

Every time the car leaves the village to attend an emergency, it’s thanks to you — our supporters, neighbours, and local businesses who keep us on the road and ready to help.

🙏 Thank you for making it possible.

DID YOU KNOW.......Thorncombe First Responders were the very first community first responder group in the country? 🚑✨

Founded right here in the village, the group has been saving lives and supporting our community for over two decades and paving the way for hundreds of other responder teams across the UK.

From humble beginnings with just a pager and a first aid kit, to today’s fully equipped volunteers, responding to emergencies alongside the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. We’re proud of our history and even prouder of our people. ❤️👏👏👏

🌟 A huge thank you to Hannah from SWAST for leading our ‘Save a Life’ event last night at the village hall last night! 🙌 Participants learned vital CPR techniques and got a hands-on demonstration of how to use a defibrillator. We also discussed important steps to take when assisting someone after a fall, which is one of our most frequent call-outs. 💙
