🌍❤️ Happy International Day of Charity! ❤️🌍

Today, we celebrate the spirit of giving and the incredible impact that charitable organisations have on our world. At Forever Hounds Trust, we’re proud to be part of this global movement, dedicating our efforts to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of greyhounds and lurchers in need.

What we do at Forever Hounds Trust:

🐾 Rescue: We save greyhounds and lurchers from situations of neglect, abuse, and abandonment, and also help those where their owners can no longer care for them. Providing them all with a safe haven.
🐾 Rehabilitation: Our team work tirelessly to nurture and heal these beautiful dogs, offering medical care, love, and behavioural support.
🐾 Rehoming: We find loving, forever homes for our hounds, ensuring they live the happy and fulfilled lives they deserve.

Our mission is fuelled by the kindness and generosity of our supporters. On this International Day of Charity, we invite you to join us in making a difference. Here’s how you can help:

🐾 Donate: Your contributions help us cover medical expenses, food, and shelter for the hounds. https://foreverhoundstrust.org/help-the-hounds/donate/
🐾 Volunteer: Join our team and make a direct impact on the lives of these amazing dogs. https://foreverhoundstrust.org/help.../become-a-volunteer/
🐾 Adopt: Consider welcoming a greyhound or lurcher into your home and experience the joy of giving a dog a second chance at life. https://foreverhoundstrust.org/dogs/
🐾 Spread the Word: Share our mission with your friends and family to raise awareness about the plight of greyhounds and lurchers.

Every little bit helps, and together, we can create a brighter future for these wonderful animals. Thank you for your continued support and compassion. Let's make today a day of positive change! 🐕💖

🐾 Two ways to spend your Sunday with the hounds! 🐾

If you’re in or around Gloucestershire and Bristol, we’ve got two lovely events coming up next Sunday, 6 September – and we’d love to see you! 💚

🐕 Gloucestershire Greyhound & Sighthound Walk
📍 The Old Lodge, Minchinhampton

Join fellow greyhound and sighthound lovers for a relaxed 45-minute walk across the beautiful Minchinhampton grassland. It’s a great chance for hounds and humans to socialise, swap stories and enjoy some good sniffs! All dogs should be kept on leads, and there’s usually time for a coffee and chat afterwards too. ☕🐾

🎪 Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary Funday & Fun Dog Show
📍 Ashton Court Estate, Bristol

Our Forever Hounds Trust team will also be at Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary’s popular Funday & Fun Dog Show. Come and say hello at our stall, find out more about our work and browse our merchandise, jams, chutneys and preloved goodies.

Whether you fancy a morning walk with your long-legged friends or an afternoon of dog-show fun (or even both!), we hope to see you there!

Find out more about both events on our website https://foreverhoundstrust.org/events/

If you’re a fan of affection, Zoro might just be your perfect match! This lovely boy is super affectionate and believes there’s no such thing as too many kisses...so expect plenty of licks! ❤️

He’s got so much love to give and is more than happy to show it. Just look at that sweet face! 🥰

Could Zoro be the one to fill your home with love (and a few slobbery kisses!)? 💙

🏡❤️ Home comforts for Alfie! ❤️🏡

Alfie was recently homed, and we’ve received these gorgeous photos of him enjoying all the home comforts his new life is bringing him. 🥰🐾

We often say that ex-racing greyhounds may never have lived in a home before – all they’ve known is kennel life. So, understandably, adapting to a completely new way of life can take a little time.

What they need most is kindness, patience and understanding – and Alfie’s adopters are giving him exactly that. ❤️ With their support, he’ll get there in his own time.

His adopters told us:

“Alfie has settled in well, though still inclined to wander in and lift his leg against the furniture on occasion! He is still quite wary about going into the garden, as he can’t see the traffic or what is making a noise outside the boundary, but is very good on the lead and on walks.”

It sounds like Alfie is making great progress as he discovers what life in a home is all about. Keep going, lovely boy! 🐕💖

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who entered our raffle for the Devon/Cornwall holiday. The draw has been made, and the lucky winner is.....GORDON DENTON! 🎉

Gordon has been notified and is understandably over-the-moon!

However, Gordon isn't the only winner, the raffle raised an AMAZING £766.50 which will make a huge difference to the hounds that need us, so they are all winners too! 🐾

Finally, we couldn't do this without the amazing generosity of our wonderful supporter Sue, who donated this fabulous prize - THANK YOU. ❤️

If you missed out, but still fancy some time away in one of these lovely dog-friendly properties, then please do check out the website for further details: https://www.dogs-holiday.co.uk/

Following on in our series about dogs that have been adopted from us in our 30 years of being a charity, we'd like to share Peanut's Story...

"My 16 year old hound, Peanut, came from FHT (then GRWE) over 14 years ago in May 2012. Following a successful homecheck, a volunteer called Anna contacted me with the details of a little fawn boy aged approximately two, found as a stray in Yorkshire. Within only a few days, I travelled to Cheshire to a small centre, well, a few kennels and a caravan office in a secure field!
Having completed all the paperwork in the ‘office’, we went to meet the boy. Led out to the paddock by Anna (whom I could never forget as this moment was one of my most special), my eyes met those of the little boy and, well, I was totally smitten. And have been deeply in love with him ever since.

Our first year was challenging due to Peanut’s severe separation anxiety and Anna remained in regular contact seeking and offering behavioural support. He improved but has remained closely bonded to me.

Continuing to follow FHT’s social media, in 2016, a beautiful grey hairy lurcher girl was on her way over from Ireland having been found as a stray. I contacted Anna immediately and within a couple of weeks, we were travelling to meet her with her foster family in the South. Hettie was so adorable and became a really good companion for Peanut, helping him to settle when we weren’t around for a short while. My family was complete. And they came almost everywhere with me. They have travelled miles in the car, run on beaches, walked up mountains, always came on holiday in our motorhome. They have been admired by so many people and adored by my friends. Everyone knew it was me and my two furries, r no visit!!

Sadly, my Hettie died suddenly last June. Peanut and I haven’t been quite the same since and his separation anxiety has escalated so he hasn’t been alone since. He has aged and does seem a rather old man now, sleeping a lot of the time. He remains devoted and loves his treats rather more than meals! Wobbly on his legs now, he quite enjoys a meal and drink from his resting place with little potters around the garden. At his most agile, he out ran all other dogs he met except the occasional greyhound! He loved teasing dogs thinking they could catch up before he accelerated! Hettie was always happy sniffing with the occasional rabbit chase!

And so, my huge gratitude to Forever Hounds Trust for the most precious gifts in my life. Such sensitive souls who feel acutely and take over your heart! As well as your bed!!"

9 years old...but nobody told Charley!

This gorgeous girl is still an absolute pocket rocket, living life in the fast lane and proving that age really is just a number. 💨🐾

Slowing down? Not a chance!

She still desperately needs a home. 🙏
