Light up a Life in memory of someone you love ✨

Wintertime can be a time of treasured memories, when we think of the people who mean so much to us, including those who are no longer here.

Our Light up a Life appeal is an opportunity to remember someone you love by dedicating a light in their memory. Every dedication is a special way to celebrate a life, share a precious memory and help support local hospice care for people and families across our community.

Your dedication will help Blythe House Hospice continue providing free care and support to people facing a life-limiting illness, and those closest to them, when they need it most. 💙

Save the date: You’re also warmly invited to join us for our Light up a Life service at Blythe House Hospice from 6.30pm on Monday 14th December (doors open at 6pm).

There’ll be time for reflection and remembrance, followed by refreshments and mince pies, with juice and snacks for children. Everyone is welcome, whether or not you or your family have been supported by Blythe House.

Whether you’re a regular runner, a weekend jogger or simply looking for a fun festive challenge, the Jingle Bell Jog is a brilliant way to get moving this Christmas.

We're sending grateful thanks to DJS Research for taking on an incredible 200-mile walking challenge and raising an amazing £840 for Blythe House Hospice! 💙

The team took on the Greater Manchester Ringway Relay, completing the 200-mile route over 20 stages in 20 days, from Monday 7th to Saturday 26th September. Starting and finishing at their office in Strines, the challenge was a brilliant test of teamwork, determination and stamina!

We’re so grateful to DJS Research for their ongoing support of Blythe House Hospice and for choosing to raise vital funds to help us continue providing free hospice care to local people and their families. It takes around £2.6 million each year to provide our services. For 7 in every 10 people we care for, that support is made possible by our community, through fundraising like this, our shops, events, and gifts in Wills.

Calling all local teachers, education staff and nursery practitioners! 🎄

Could your school, nursery or pre-school help local families this Christmas by taking part in our Merry Mile? 🎅👟

The Merry Mile is a fun, festive and inclusive run or walk that gets children moving whilst raising money for Blythe House Hospice, helping us support children and young people affected by a loved one's life-limiting illness, or the death of someone they love.

It’s easy to get involved:
🎄 Choose any date in November or December
👟 Plan a festive mile that works for your setting - whether that’s a walk around the playground, a dash across the school field, or a loop around your local park
🎅 Get everyone involved, dress up in festive outfits and have fun raising money for local families.

And we’ll help you along the way! We can provide a short, engaging assembly about the hospice, sponsorship materials, festive headwear and even a visit from Blythe Bear! 🐻

Making room for the season ahead? 👖

Bring your unwanted treasures along to our next donation drop-off in Ashford-in-the-Water and help support local people living with a life-limiting illness from 12.45 to 3.15pm on Wednesday 28th October.

You can find us at the Water Memorial Institute on Greaves Lane, DE45 1QB, where our wonderful volunteers will be on hand to assist with your donations.

Please remember that if you can buy it, then we can sell it. We kindly request that all items must be clean, complete and in good condition.

Your donations help us make the most of every pound raised, ensuring more funds towards local hospice care. 💙

Let's padel for Blythe House Hospice! 🎾

Ready to serve up some fun for a great cause? 👀 We’re excited to launch our brand-new event – the Blythe House Hospice Charity Padel Tournament! 🙌

We’re teaming up with Cross Padel for an evening of friendly competition, fundraising and plenty of fun on and off the court.

Whether you’re a seasoned padel player or fancy trying something new, grab your partner and get ready to battle it out to become our first-ever Blythe House Hospice Padel champions! 🏆

📅 6 to 11pm on Saturday 28th November 2026
📍 Cross Padel, Clay Cross, S45 9UZ
💷 £45 per player and £10 for spectators

The Americano-style tournament will give you plenty of opportunities to get on court, with rackets and balls provided. There’ll also be prizes to win, a bottle tombola, raffle, drinks and plenty of atmosphere!

Best of all, every entry will help us continue providing vital care and support to local people affected by life-limiting illness, and their families.

What does spiritual care mean to you? 💙

Spiritual care is about much more than religion. It’s about having the time and space to talk about what matters most, explore difficult feelings, find comfort and make sense of life’s challenges.

At Blythe House Hospice, our volunteer Spiritual Care Team offers a listening ear and compassionate support to patients, families and those close to them. Whether you’re facing a difficult diagnosis, navigating bereavement or simply need someone to talk to, our team is here to listen without judgement.

To mark Spiritual Care Week this week (18 to 24th October), our volunteers have shared their thoughts on the importance of spiritual and pastoral care, and how a little time, understanding and compassion can make a difference.

A huge thank you to Sarah, Sophie, Beccy, Lucy and Nathan, who took on the Great North Run last month in support of Blythe House Hospice!🏃

Together, they raised an incredible £3,151, which will fund 86 hours of Hospice at Home care for patients who wish to remain in the comfort and safety of their own home at the end of their life.

Every mile they ran and every pound they raised will make a real difference to local patients and their families, helping us provide compassionate care when it's needed most.💙
