Closure of Butterflies Bereavement Service, Hampshire
It is with deep regret that the Trustees have made the very difficult decision to actionthe closure of Butterflies Bereavement Service Hampshire, based in Eastleigh.
Alongside other charities, funding of the organisation has been a perpetual challenge especially in the current climate. Despite a number of campaigns to raise funds and numerous grant applications the minimal funding required to keep Butterflies running has never reached a level to sustain the organisation.
To compound the funding issues, the charity has also had difficulties in securing volunteers for key roles within the organisation. Unfortunately bereavement support
appears not to be a high priority when seeking funding through grants or donations.
The Trustees would like to express their sincere thanks to former Chair and Clinical Lead, Julie Lamont without whom Butterflies would not have been able to survive for the past four years. Her work and commitment to the organisation and to the needs of the bereaved has been outstanding.
Alongside Julie and the office manager Aaron, there has been a very small dedicated team of volunteers, especially Norma, who have ensured that those who have accessed the service have received the utmost care and support. Thanks must
also be expressed to the counsellors who have been instrumental in providing a quality bereavement support service.
It is anticipated that the service will cease on 31 May 2026, thus allowing the organisation to ensure that the proper arrangements can be made to close the charity.
Until this date Butterflies will continue to serve the needs of those who access the charity.
