Chiltern Speakers - Toastmasters

Last week at Chiltern Speakers, I was once again reminded why I love being part of this club. Walking into a full room with members and several guests there was an immediate buzz in the air, and that energy carried us through the entire evening.

From the very start, the room was filled with energy and anticipation, setting the stage for another engaging and inspiring meeting.
Martin took on the role of Toastmaster and guided the meeting with confidence, humour, and a steady hand, keeping everything flowing smoothly from start to finish. Diane kept us right on schedule as Timekeeper, while Emine, our Grammarian for the evening, kept our language sharp and our ears attentive.

Table Topics really brought the room alive. Ram led the session with great energy and engaging prompts, encouraging speakers to think on their feet and share their ideas with confidence.
✨ Surinder’s “Life of Digital Words” was thought-provoking, engaging, and delivered with calm confidence earning Surinder the well-deserved award for Best Speech of the evening 👏

The evaluations were equally inspiring. Jacqui’s feedback stood out for its clarity, encouragement, and practical insight, earning her Best Evaluator. It was a wonderful example of how powerful supportive feedback can be in helping speakers grow.
One of my highlights was seeing how supportive and encouraging the room was throughout the evening. That spirit of encouragement whether for first-time speakers or seasoned members is what makes Chiltern Speakers such a special place to grow.

Evenings like this remind me that Toastmasters isn’t just about speeches it’s about people, growth, and the courage to step up.

Last night at Chiltern Speakers, I was once again reminded why I love being part of this club 💙

Walking into a full room — with members and several guests — there was an immediate buzz in the air, and that energy carried us right through the evening.

The meeting kicked off with a bang thanks to Eddie, our Sergeant at Arms for the evening. His uplifting and energising opening instantly set the tone — smiles appeared, shoulders relaxed, and everyone was ready to engage.

Caroline, our Toastmaster, guided the meeting with confidence and warmth, keeping everything flowing seamlessly.
Ram kept us on track as Timekeeper, while Katherine, our Grammarian, challenged us with the perfectly chosen Word of the Day: Buoyant — which summed up the evening beautifully.

Anna encouraged quick thinking and brave responses, supported by Ksenia, whose thoughtful and encouraging evaluation helped speakers grow. Tiffany, our General Evaluator, tied the whole meeting together with insightful reflections.

The prepared speeches were a joy to watch:
✨ Shally’s “Dates and Datings” had the room laughing and fully engaged

✨ Martin’s “Taking the Impromptu Out of Impromptu Speaking” delivered practical takeaways I’ll definitely use

✨ Surinder’s “Prince in a Town” was uplifting and quietly powerful

And then there was Emma, who completely stole the night with “It’s Always Good to Confess,” winning Best Speech 🏆
Emma — I’m convinced there’s a comedian hiding in there somewhere! The timing, humour, and confidence were spot on 👏

One of my highlights was the evaluations. Moni’s feedback to Shally was uplifting, honest, and empowering — a true masterclass in positive evaluation. Huge credit as well to Sampath, Jacqui, and Diane for reinforcing the supportive and encouraging culture that makes Chiltern Speakers so special.

Evenings like this remind me that Toastmasters isn’t just about speeches — it’s about people, growth, and the courage to step up. And judging by the full room and engaged guests, that message is clearly resonating.

This week, we wrapped up our final Chiltern Speakers meeting of the year, and what an amazing one it was. Phillip struck gold, winning Best Speech and Best Table Topics, with Diane and Ram recognised as Best Evaluators.

What makes Chiltern Speakers so special is the strong community spirit, where members support, encourage, and help each other grow through challenges. It truly feels like a family.

As we close out the year, we’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 🎄✨

As we close out the year, December is a time for celebrating, reflecting, and spending quality moments with family. ❤️
But let’s not forget the family we choose — the people who support us, encourage us, and truly care about our growth and success.
This week, Chiltern Speakers came together for our Christmas party, and what an amazing time it was! 🎄✨
So much laughter, great energy, and some fantastic games — all brilliantly organised by our wonderful Moni Kaur Nanda 👏

✨ What an amazing evening yesterday at Chiltern Speakers Toastmasters Club as we kicked off competition season! ✨

The room was buzzing with energy, and it was so inspiring to see so many members stepping up to take on the challenge. Huge congratulations to Shally, Moni, Caroline, Katherine, Kavan, Ram, Tiffany, and Murugappan in the Table Topics Contest, and Eddie, Ram, and Moni in the Humorous Speech Contest.

A special shoutout to Diane, who led the evening as our Competition Chairperson with fantastic organisation and leadership — the evening ran so smoothly thanks to her!

It was a tough and competitive night, but that’s exactly what makes Toastmasters so special — pushing ourselves, learning, and having fun along the way.

🍂 Summer’s over, and as we head into the new school year and cooler months, it’s great to have something that keeps us motivated and connected — and for us, that’s Toastmasters!
We had such a brilliant meeting last night at Chiltern Speakers — full of great energy, laughter, and inspiration. We had some fantastic guests join us, welcomed a brand-new member, and enjoyed some really strong speeches.

👏 A big shout-out to Jacqui, who did a brilliant job as Toastmaster, and to Tiffany, who ran our Table Topics session — we had some fun and creative impromptu speaking moments thanks to her!
