Last night, CCWI Committee looked into the future. It takes time, a little creativity and some perseverance to put a Programme together.

Over cheese and biscuits, cake and chocolates at Sylvia our Secretary’s house, we planned the 2027 year of events.

There are exciting activities, some new speakers and old favourites around the core of our meetings - friendship, learning and community action - in a year when we will celebrate our 107th birthday.

Thanks to Wendy for agreeing to contact the speakers. Our best wishes go to Barbara and thanks to her for the work she has done to date. Get well soon! And finally our gratitude to Jill, waiting in the wings, to bring it all together for printing.

Another fun year ahead at CCWI.

June is the Month of Community 💚

It’s a chance to celebrate the people that make our communities so special.

Our July Monthly Meeting on Wednesday 1st July 2026 Chaddesley Corbett Village Hall at 7.30pm:-

Playwriting by Nick Wilkes. Nick is a published playwright who has written 37 plays to date for stage. This is a return visit from Nick who gives us an informal and informative talk of life onstage and off.

Competition: A Cherished Theatre Item.

There is also a monthly craft club, lunch club and book club for those interested where friendships are made and strengthened.

Last night, Maggi Davis who is a local speaker and historian, gave a fascinating talk to CCWI on Princess Sophia Duleep Singh (1876–1948), the goddaughter of Queen Victoria.

The daughter of the exiled Maharaja Duleep Singh (the last Sikh ruler of the Punjab), Sophia was a woman of her time, or even ahead of her time? She transformed from an elite socialite into a militant suffragette and passionate champion for gender equality.

The savouries and cakes which followed were much appreciated. The competition entries (India) were varied with Andrea’s sari, presented to her mother when her father left the Gurkhas, deemed to be the winner.

The trading table is being relaunched next month, focussing on home-made produce from our kitchens and gardens. Proceeds will go to our adopted charity for this year, Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

Chaddesley Corbett WI Craft Club ignored the heat outside and were creative with Indian block printing this evening.

Cotton bags were decorated with the ancient form of textile art using carved wooden blocks and fabric paints.

A relaxing evening with time to chat over tea and biscuits.

Our February meeting included a talk from vet Helen Perryman-Smith owner of Pawsitive in Hartlebury, the competition was Pets won by Ruth with her felted collie, cakes and sausage rolls made by Christine and Sally and a trading stall raising money for the Worcester Royal hospital breast care unit.
