The Women’s Institute was formed in 1915 with two clear aims: to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then our aims have broadened and we are now the largest women’s organisation in the UK. We celebrated our 90th anniversary in 2005 and currently have 205,000 members in 6,500 WIs.

December 2024 was a busy month for our WI. A trip to Burghley Christmas market, a knit and natter meeting to make a Christmas themed topper for the local postbox and decorating of a Christmas πŸŽ„ tree for the church.

The December meeting was a Christmas dinner with members and guests catered for by Steve, Paula and their wonderful team at Floral Media.
For this meeting we asked our members to bring an item of clothing for a new born baby or bits for a new mother this would be sent to our chosen charity, Baby Basics in Newark who serve Newark and Kings Mill Hospital areas providing starter packs for those in need.. This may include teenage mothers, families on low incomes, and woman fleeing domestic abuse and trafficking. Our members were very generous with their clothing and essentials. We also ran a raffle which raised Β£250. All these were presented to Jennifer who runs the Baby Basics in Newark.

What an entertaining June meeting we had with our speaker Brian Nelson who demonstrated encaustic art (art with wax). He gave us a short history on its origins and his life story and how he has overcome adversity to do what he does today. He even trusted us to have a go at the end. Great evening.

Happy Easter 🐣 to you all.
