Hathersage Forget Me Nots were delighted to be joined by MHA Moorland House residents Margaret and Mary, with Stephanie joining later, for a truly uplifting and musical afternoon with District Musicians CIC. The room was soon filled with smiles, laughter, and the joy of shared music-making.

Sophie and Nick created a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere, bringing along a wide range of instruments for everyone to try. Residents and members enthusiastically joined in, whether tapping along, shaking percussion, or simply enjoying the melodies. The music sparked memories, emotions, conversations, and a strong sense of togetherness, making the afternoon especially meaningful for all involved.

During well-earned breaks, we relaxed with cups of tea and glasses of warming mulled wine. It was a heart-warming afternoon that highlighted the power of music to connect and engage people, lift spirits, and create lasting moments of happiness. Big thank you to Sophie and Nick who we look forward to seeing again in the new year!

This Christmas, our wonderful Forget Me Nots members had a special request — to take part in the Bakewell Christmas Tree Festival! Thanks to the kindness of Bakewell All Saints Church, we were able to share our beautiful little tree, lovingly decorated with homemade forget-me-not themed creations.

Net and Dot put incredible effort into their crocheted floral chains, while the rest of the group came together to craft and decorate dazzling salt-dough ornaments (glittered to perfection, of course ✨).

It was a true team effort, and we are so proud of what our group achieved together!

A huge thank you to Bakewell All Saints Church for welcoming us into this festive community celebration. There are some stunning trees and it’s well worth a visit.

Bakewell Forget Me Nots made some inventive mince pies yesterday, we didn’t have the traditional round pastry cutters but we did have the forget me not shaped ones, we thought they turned out really well!

We also had a look around the Church which is Beautifully decorated for Christmas. We finished up the session with a Christmas sing along and another cup of tea!

When do life’s moments become moments that matter?

Last week, MHA launched our Share a Memory appeal to raise funds for our Befriending Service.

Last year, our amazing befrienders made over 9,000 calls to older people, bringing conversation, laughter and comfort to those who might otherwise face long days alone. This appeal will help us keep those vital connections alive and reach even more people.

Let’s tackle loneliness together. Learn more: https://bit.ly/44oe7pR.

Yesterday our walking group took a very chilly stroll around Castleton, unfortunately we missed the sunshine but we didn’t let that stop our fun! We walked up to the Devil’s Arse and spotted tons of icicles hanging down from the cliff.

We visited the Christmas Tree festival at St Edmund’s Church where we got some inspiration for our own trees, met some lovely dogs (and people) and had a warmup by the radiator before heading down to the cafe for some well earned tea and scones.

We work in partnership with Peak District National Park to deliver these dementia friendly health walks monthly to people who might not feel comfortable getting out and about on their own and might need a bit of extra social time. We are supported by volunteers who carefully plan the walks in advance to ensure they are suitable for our members, they are short and at a pace to suit everyone, and most importantly they always finish at a cafe!

If you or someone you know is interested in joining our walking group or would like to volunteer with us please get in touch on 07934 603926 or email [email protected]

Forget Me Nots Bakewell have had an Autumnal afternoon making wreaths and hedgehogs using leaves from the garden. Other members have been working on our Christmas trees decorations which are coming along well.

We scoffed some lovely toffee cake with our cups of tea and enjoyed a Bonfire Night themed quiz. The proud winners took home a toffee apple to enjoy this evening while watching the fireworks.

We had a lovely afternoon with our Bakewell group as we welcomed Derbyshire Carers Association, along with our fellow MHA colleagues Sarah and Sally, who kindly came along to lend a hand. 💙

Together, we painted the salt dough forget-me-nots that our Hathersage group made a few weeks ago (don’t worry, Hathersage – there are still plenty left for you to paint!). Of course, no session would be complete without plenty of tea, coffee, cakes, and biscuits – and it was wonderful to see some new faces joining us too.

A huge thank you to Sarah and Sally for their support with teas, coffees, setting up, cleaning down, and chatting with our members. Unfortunately, they can’t be with us every week – which means we’re on the lookout for volunteers who might like to come along and help with these little but important jobs at any of our services (currently Hathersage and Bakewell).

👉 If you’re interested in volunteering at any of our groups, we’d love to hear from you!
