Dramarama - Dorothy's Adventure in Oz ✨🎭

Yesterday our talented cast at Dramarama put on their performance of 'Dorothy's Adventure in Oz'.

They learned all about scripts, singing, stage directions, and using costume and props!

They gave a fantastic performance to an adoring audience and we can't wait to see what they do next!

Joshua probably doesn’t need much introduction, as he’s already a very familiar face around the Glenkens and the CatStrand! 🎶

We’re really pleased to welcome Joshua Wells as our new part-time Music Intern.

Josh will be working on thursday evenings alongside our fab music tutor Emily, helping to coordinate the music programme, as well as working with Erin and Louis, our other brilliant interns, to create even more musical magic at the CatStrand.

Josh has been involved with us for a long time as an Arts Ambassador and volunteer, and he’s also one of our principal cast members with the Youth Players, so it’s great to now welcome him into this new role.

We’re really looking forward to working with you, Josh, and seeing what you bring to the programme! 🎵✨

A huge thank you to The Holywood Trust and Creative Scotland for their support in making opportunities like this possible for young people in the Glenkens. Without their funding, we wouldn’t be able to offer these important paid opportunities for young people to gain experience, develop their skills and help shape the creative programme.

Welcome to the team, Josh! 💛

🎵 Help us plan future music lessons for under 16s! 🎵

We're looking at expanding our music school and would love to know which instruments young people would be interested in learning. Which instrument would your child be most keen to try?

🥁 Drums
🎻 Violin
🎵 Mini Harp

If your choice isn't listed, tell us in the comments!

We'd also appreciate knowing: ✅ Your child's age ✅ Whether they're a complete beginner or have some experience ✅ Any other instruments you'd like us to offer Your feedback will help us shape future opportunities for young people in the Glenkens. 😊

YOU SAID. WE DID. 💬🎨🎭🎶

Over the last few years, we’ve been continuously listening to children, young people and families about what they want from CatStrand Creatives.

We been using that feedback to shape what we do, and to help us raise the funding to actually make it happen.

Over the last few years, we’ve brought in funding and support through organisations including Glenkens & District Trust, YouthLink Scotland, Young Start and the Youth Music Initiative, helping us turn some of those ideas into actual activity in the Glenkens.

There’s still plenty we can do yet. That’s why the next part matters just as much:

What should we do next?

If you’re a child or young person locally, we want to hear what you’d like to learn, make, perform, try or change.

You said. We listened. We did. Now tell us what’s next.

YOUTH VOICE LAB - COMING THIS SEPTEMBER!

We’re launching a new Youth Voice Lab this September and we want local children and young people to get involved.

This won’t be a sit-down meeting or a boring questionnaire. The day will be full of creative, hands-on activities designed to help young people tell us what they want from CatStrand Creatives and what they’d love to see happening locally.

There’ll be art-making, creative challenges, idea walls, voting games, dream-project activities and plenty of chances to come up with completely new ideas.
Young people will get the chance to:

🎨create and experiment
💡 share their ideas in their own way
🗳️ have a real say in future activities and projects
🎭 help shape what CatStrand Creatives offers next
🤝 meet other young people and work together
🌱 build confidence, leadership and decision-making skills
🚀 suggest things they’d genuinely like to see happen

And importantly, we’ll report back on what young people tell us and what we’re able to do as a result.
