Look! Only two stops in D and G and we’re one of them!

As we head into autumn we're travelling to Dumfries and Galloway, where we'll be visiting the Crannog Campus in Castle Douglas on Tuesday 13th October, and Old School Thornhill on Wednesday 14th October, in partnership with The Stove Network and What We Do Now. Everyone welcome to come and visit, we'll be open 10am to 4pm at both venues.

October at the Crannog and around Castle Douglas 🍂
All events are free unless stated otherwise.
• Monday 5 October, 7–9pm — The Folklore of Protecting the Home, with Devil’s Porridge Museums’ Tom Hughes. The Local History Group is open to everyone at the Crannog.
• Wednesday 7 October, 7–9pm Writers’ Café at the Crannog. A friendly, free gathering for writers, would-be writers and anyone who enjoys talking about the art and craft of writing.
• Saturday 10 October, 5.30–8pm — Loch Ken Rangers’ DARK SKIES FESTIVAL Bat Walk at the Crannog, with hot chocolate!
• Tuesday 13 October, 10am–4pm — Travelling Gallery in the Park. Free drop-in at Lochside Park.
• Tuesday 13 October, 2.30–6.30pm — drop by and try your hand at Game design and digital art with Craig Duncan, supported by What We Do Now. At the Crannog.
• Wednesday 14 October, 3–4pm — Carlingwark Loch research meeting at the Crannog. Open to anyone interested in researching the loch and its links to curling and the marl industry.
• Sunday 18 October — Producers’ Market at Market Hill, Castle Douglas, weather permitting. Contact us to book a stall. This event is at Market Hill, not the Crannog.
• Wednesday 21 October, 6–7.30pm — Crafty Cooking is back! At the Crannog. Please book, as spaces are limited.
• Thursday 22 October, 7pm — People’s Emergency Briefing film screening and conversation at the Crannog community hub, Lochside Park. Hosted by Eco CD in partnership with Auchencairn Climate Transition, and supported by Castle Douglas Development Forum.

Save the date! Pop in to this FREE contemporary art exhibition - and we have a free Digital Art Drop-in Session to compliment the exhibition, led by Craig Duncan, WWDN Creative Spaces Associate. Explore pixel art and animation inspired by the artwork and themes in the gallery.

We are delighted to be hosting this FREE event during Scotland’s Climate Week.
Come along and share your wildlife encounters in a relaxed drawing and memory workshop with illustrator Emily Tough.

We will share and recreate our favourite memories and sightings of wildlife in and around Castle Douglas, with a particular focus on Carlingwark Loch and its very special, protected environment.
The workshop is open to everyone, whatever stage you are at in your creative journey—you do not have to be “good” at drawing! We will use pencils and watercolour crayons to bring memorable wildlife encounters to life.
The event is part of Castle Douglas Development Forum’s work to celebrate Carlingwark Loch, raise awareness of its environmental importance and help people appreciate and care for its wildlife.
The memories, stories and drawings shared during the workshop will help inspire the development of future wildlife information and interpretation for the loch.
