❗ Help shape our local D&G Regional Good Food Nation Plan!

Jointly organised by Dumfries and Galloway Council, NHS D&G Public Health and collaborating members of the DG Sustainable Food Partnership, two food summits will launch regionwide engagement with communities and individuals across the region.

These events will be for colleagues, communities, organisations, businesses and food producers from across D&G to come together for an interactive day and explore the challenges, opportunities and actions needed to create a healthier, fairer and more sustainable food system.

Key themes for our shared Regional Good Food Nation Plan:
💚 Healthy Food for All - everyone has access to affordable, healthy food
🌎 Food Sustainability - reducing the impact of food production, processing and waste on the environment
⭐ Community Food & Food Access - celebrating our food culture, supporting community growing, cooking, sharing and learning
🍽️ Procurement - transforming food served in schools, hospitals, prisons and public spaces
🛍️ Food Economy - support a strong food economy with resilient businesses, jobs and training opportunities
👶🏻 Children & Young People - better food in and out of school, healthier choices for families, and supporting breastfeeding initiatives

The Good Food Nation agenda provides an opportunity to bring together people from across communities, the public sector, third sector, food production, education and businesses to create a shared vision for food in our region.

Loving the climate hub activities!

Dawn popped over to this lovely event and what a great way to start thinking about climate week! She made a great seed packet with some hogweed seeds, a native warming spice to add to winter syrups and baking.

Our Propagate artist Emily Tough We Agree On Eggs, joined the Midsteeple Quarter to help engage locals on the redevelopment of the high street.

Midsteeple now own several of the buildings in the town centre, and are running community events to inform for the next steps in redevelopment.

Emily hosted a little seed library where people came designed thier own seed packet using hand carved stamps, and thought about their hopes and dreams for the future of our town.

Propagator Denis was in the cool kids corner at the Glenkens skills and jobs fair in Dalry yesterday with Phoebe from Climate Hub / Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere and Michele from Galloway Food Hub!

Lots of great engaging discussion with other stall holders and punters alike. What a great community!

WORKSHOPS COMING UP........

We're excited to announce not one, not two, but FOUR new workshops coming up in our Nourish Project.

🍅 "Nutrition for Common Health Conditions" - understand the nutrients our bodies need to support long term health and common conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis and IBS, in this practical workshop with Nutritionist Lorna Willock - Thursday 15th October, 10am to 4pm - FREE.

🍏 "Nourish Community Apple Day" - making, baking and juicing, with support from Machars Abundance, Machars &Cree Valley Climate Action Network and Teapots Catering - Saturday 24th October, 10am to 2.30pm - FREE.

🥗 "Festive Ferments" - learn how to make Christmas Kraut, fermented mincemeat and kombucha, delicious, gut friendly recipes ready in time for Christmas, with Teapots Catering - Saturday 7th November, 10am to 1pm - FREE.

🎄 "Christmas Baking" - spend a cosy day in the kitchen with us making focaccia, gingerbread reindeer and chocolate Yule log - Thursday 10th December, 2pm - 5pm - FREE.

We’re excited to be planning a brand new monthly Farmers’ Market at Lockerbie Old School, taking place on the first Saturday of every month, and we’re looking for local businesses to join us.

Whether you sell fresh local produce, homemade bakes, preserves, flowers, plants, handmade crafts or something a little different, we’d love to hear from you.

Stalls will be just £12, giving local businesses and independent sellers an affordable opportunity to showcase their products, meet new customers and be part of a growing community event right here in Lockerbie.

We are glad to be re-inviting you onto the greenspace for a Community Gathering event, after our last date got cancelled due to rainy, windy weather!

We hope you will be able to join us Tuesday 29th September, 1 - 4pm.

Find us by the line of trees at the front of the Mountainhall Treatment Centre: we'll be using Jim Buchanan's mown labyrinth as a focal point.

We've decided to strip back the program a little, but still have a great set of gentle activities for you to enjoy.
