My name is Claire I run northern lights Morris dancing troupe to anybody age 2 to adults. I started this troupe because I myself did Morris dancing growing up from the age of 5 and always said I would one day have my own troupe but it would be different to any other in the area. This was because I saw how many sacrifices were made by family members to enable me and my sisters to be able to do Morr
is dancing practices, competitions, championships etc and although I loved the hobby didn’t appreciate how strict it was . So my troupe eventually would be free and main objective would be everyone to have fun and not so rigged. I ended up giving up for a few years to have my children. After this I was diagnosed with stage 3b cancer and was very touch and go so I moved house to be closer to help. I finally got through treatment etc and found out there was no longer Morris dancing in the new area. So I was now even more determined than ever to start my own Morris dancing troupe with my earlier goals in mind. This started this 14th April 2015 still being quite poorly and not in a great place financially after everything but I was determined as I missed it so much and now had girls of my own who needed a hobby and couldn’t afford to send them to one. That first night we had an amazing turn out and over the short years did amazing at competitions and became champions quite quick quite an achievement. We do fundraisers to be able to pay for practice halls, practice attire, competition attire, transport, insurance, dbs checks, days out for team bonding, championships there’s just so much to mention. We have done quite well in raising money and had help to keep going until covid because we haven’t been able to get together and do our normal fundraisers. So we are trying to keep this raffle page going from now to try raise money so we can carry on after lockdown to keep local children/adults doing a hobby they love and all for free. We want it to be accessible and inclusive for all as we believe hobby’s should be for everyone regardless of circumstances especially in this uncertain time. We have years of dance experience and it’s fully run by unpaid volunteers that are dbs checked. we have twice a week practices kirkham and now Blackpool . Competitions every other Sunday and weekend championships every year. We know it’s a struggle for all but it would mean so much to us all if you could play along now and again if you can or even just take the time to share our posts. Yes we teach dance but we also teach working together as a team, compassion, discipline, commitment, hard work, sharing really all life lessons. More importantly we have fun doing it and build friendships/families for life, fantastic exercise and gets kids out doing something . I’m also a TA and can help with homework,school work, finding a job, cvs and so much more. Great group of people and we thank you for your support # #
