Clydesdale Food Bank

Clydesdale Food Bank We are a registered charity serving the area of Clydesdale (from Leadhills in the South, Douglas in the West, Forth in the East, to Law in the North).

Clydesdale Food Bank has been operational since March 2013. It was started by the Church of Scotland in Carluke, the Parish Grouping of the three congregations in Carluke in response to awareness of a growing need. It was quickly realised that we needed to look at a larger area and as a result we serve all of Clydesdale and are supported by churches of all denominations from all over that area as

well as schools, clubs and organisations of all types and also private individuals. The Food bank is run by volunteers who give many hours to collecting, sorting, packing and delivering food as well as taking part in various fund raising activities. As well as the main hub in Carluke, there are satellite distribution sites in Lanark, Biggar, Douglas and Kirkmuirhill, each with their own co-ordinator and team of drivers and deliverers.

Our old cabins are leaking and today part of the ceiling has come down. We can now see daylight through the roof. If water continues to get in, other bits of ceiling will come down too.
We are hunting for funding £15,000) to replace these but as a temporary measure, does any local business have tarpualins (20 ft long ) that could be secured over the roof.

THANK YOU!

We have had an amazing couple of weeks.
The collection days at Tesco Carluke and Lanark last week raised 2.78 tonnes of food and a whopping £2848.66 Thank you to everyone who donated and to all the volunteers who made it possible.

There have been many wonderful donations of food this week too.
Every last bit is appreciated.

However, there were 83 referrals this week which meant that 170 boxes of food plus 83 Christmas bags were distributed. We have spent £1977.23 just on food, plus £1167.47 on insurance.

The need is great but with your help we can continue to serve.

THANK YOU!

Lots of really lovely, generous donations this week including Kirkton Church, Lifestyles Centre, Crossford and Kirkfieldbank Church, Forest Kirk, St Andrews Guild and the Anderson family among others.
We really appreciate your support.

Did you know that each week we have to buy substantial quantities of food just to meet the demand. For instance in August our food bill was £10,889.60

We need your help!

We are looking for physically fit drivers aged 30-72 with clean driving licenses and at least 3 years driving experience to deliver food packs to homes throughout Clydesdale.

We have a Mercedes Sprinter (automatic) and a Vauxhall Vivaro (manual) .

This is voluntary position (ie the reward is a glow of satisfaction!) and drivers can either be on a regular rota or available for relief.
Drivers are always accompanied by an assistant - we could use a few more of them for the relief list too!

If you want to help, please email [email protected] giving your name and tel no and we will get in touch.
