The Rose Castle Foundation (RCF) is a peacebuilding organisation dedicated to building trust across deep divides. From its headquarters in Cumbria, United Kingdom, RCF is building a global network of ‘reconciling leaders’, equipped to transform conflict within their spheres of influence. A leading specialist in reconciliation within and between the Abrahamic faiths, RCF’s network includes partners

and reconcilers across all six inhabited continents, with larger clusters in the Middle East, East and West Africa, the USA, and the UK. RCF works largely with universities, communities, seminaries, government bodies, and peacebuilding networks, but also shares learning publicly and with civil society.

We love welcoming church groups to Rose Castle for our retreat journeys and it’s even more impressive when they’ve crossed the ocean to get here! From prayer in the chapel to discussions in the library to reimagining our role as reconcilers in the garden room, the beauty of creation is always there surrounding us and everyone went home with a bundle of everlasting flowers from the gardens 🌺

Sometimes we need to step away from our known environments to get to know each other on a deeper level, to give ourselves rest, to be still with God, and to see our lives through refreshed eyes 💦 ☀️ 🌱

The deep fractures of the world can feel so overwhelming but there is so much beauty for us to shine a light on for one another too. If you’re struggling to see that for yourself today, who else might you encourage? You’ll probably find it lifts your eyes as well…

Reflecting on our recent Mitzvah Day and how beautiful it was to welcome refugees, faith leaders and dignitaries from across the county for a special tea at Rose Castle following fell walks in the Lake District!

It continues to be a challenging time for interfaith relationships but that is even more reason to draw close together and remember that we are through the support and collaboration we can give. It was particularly moving to see how many clothes and walking boots had been donated for refugees and to hear from the mountain guides about the need to diversify the fells!

With many thanks to the West Coast and Carlisle refugee communities, to the High Sheriff of Cumbria, Julie Minns MP, and Stuart Diamond, CEO of for travelling to be with us - we hope to welcome you all again to Rose Castle soon!

Perhaps you saw us share about this on ITV News? For more details of the day, head to our blog (link in bio!)

A big thank you to all who joined us for our community carol service this week to celebrate the gift of Christmas and also to mark 10 years of Rose Castle Foundation! We are so grateful for your ongoing support.

It was particularly special being joined by the Deo Volente Singers, a new choir in Carlisle this year that brings people together across different denominations in celebration of and commitment to ecumenical relations. The initiative is led by Nathan Laxton of Harker Grange, who also writes his own music and lyrics to bring the Christian faith to life through song!

A few photos from life at Rose Castle recently of leaders of all generations gathering together across difference to re-member the past, re-humanise the present and re-imagine a shared future 🌱

As we mark Remembrance Sunday today, you may find our 3 Rs of Reconciliation a helpful framework for reflection:

1. Re-member: What are you able to re-member (literally piece together) in your understanding of the world wars and conflicts since? How might you seek out missing pieces in order to learn more? What are your own memories?

2. Re-humanise: Try to step into the shoes of someone who has served in war, fled war, or dealt with the trauma of conflict and loss. How might these experiences impact the way we live and relate to the world around us today? There are many real life accounts from the past, and many people living in our communities today who are living this reality right now - who could you learn from or share with? Whose voices and stories do you not hear?

3. Re-imagine: Can you imagine a world with leaders who heal divides? Communities who are equipped to manage disagreement and conflict healthily? What could you do today to start growing cultures of peace in your home, community, workplace?

We all have a role to play in crossing divides instead of creating them 🤲
