Yesterday in Westminster, Suzanne and Kate joined other children's hospices from across the UK alongside Together for Short Lives - who have released a new report highlighting the growing pressure facing children’s hospices.

The report shows that costs for children's hospices have risen by around a third in recent years, while funding has not kept pace - leaving almost 9 in 10 hospices expecting to spend more than they receive this year.

At the same time, demand continues to grow for children and families relying on hospice care at the most difficult time in their lives.

The visit to Westminster was an important opportunity to speak directly with MPs and call for fair, sustainable funding - so families can continue to access the vital care and support they need, now and in the future.

Suzanne said "We're grateful to MPs for taking the time to hear first-hand from parents and carers what hospice care means to them and why fair hospice funding matters so much." 🧡

Local MP, Julie Minns MP, made the extra effort to say hello to Suzanne and Kate, and even got one of her team to give them a tour of the building. We're so grateful to Julie and her team for taking the time to listen and make them feel so welcome! 👏

Please help by sharing this post to raise awareness of why fair funding matters. 🧩

Hear what Jigsaw means for the families we care for 🧡

For the children and families we support, Jigsaw is so much more than specialist care. It's a joyful place, filled with laughter, comfort and understanding where children can simply be children.

It's where families can step out of the everyday challenges they face and simply spend meaningful time together to create memories, with the comfort and reassurance that they are not alone.

It’s why fair funding matters so much - and why Kate and Suzanne recently took this message to Westminster. Stay tuned as we share more about their visit, and what this means for the families we support. 🧡

Thank you to the teams at CreativeHutch and Quokka Media Group for bringing this video together!

Recently, we were shocked and disappointed to discover that some opportunistic criminals thought they could help themselves to £900 worth of copper piping being stored in our hospice garage.

After a huge project to refresh our hospice plumbing, the sale of piping was going to fund 24 hours of care for a patient, an average of £968.27 per room.

Costs are increasing for all those in our community, and we are not immune. We are saddened that a service as vital as the hospice, which brings compassion, dignity and comfort every day to local people, has become a victim of crime.

Thankfully, we have clear CCTV which has been shared with Cumbria Police as part of their ongoing investigation; however, we are unlikely to ever see that copper piping again.

We will continue to keep Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice, a safe and welcoming place for all those who may need hospice care.

Julie Clayton, Chief Executive, said "I am so disappointed that anyone could think a hospice is fair game to target for theft, and I'm so glad our CCTV caught images of the culprits and their van so clearly. We will continue to deliver the best quality care to those who need us throughout the local community."

Thank you to all of you in our local community who continue to stand beside your hospice and support the vital hospice care we provide, and especially to Contract Flooring who made a donation as soon as they heard about the theft.

Suzanne and Kate have arrived in London! 🤩💂 🚇️

They're on their way to Parliament to join Together for Short Lives, children’s hospices, MPs and families supported by children's hospices to listen, share experiences, and explain why Jigsaw and other children's hospices are so vital.

Today's discussions will include a new report published by Together For Short Lives, highlighting the rise in demand and costs to children's hospices across the UK, and the lack of sustainable funding.

As demand rises across the UK, children’s hospices are, on average, providing more care and support than ever before. Care costs more, and hospices are relying more and more on local communities to fund this specialist care.

A lot of this care would otherwise fall to the NHS to provide.

Despite this, funding from local NHS bodies and councils is failing to keep pace; children’s hospices are being forced to rely on charitable income and financial reserves just to maintain essential services. Three-fifths of children's hospices across the UK (60%) ended 2025/26 with a budget deficit.

A huge thank you to Zoe and her uncle Brian... 🤩

Zoe and Brian recently took on the incredible St Cuthbert’s Way (a 63-mile trek from Melrose to Holy Island over four days), all in support of your hospice. Battling long miles and even a rain-soaked third day, their determination has raised an amazing £2,513! 👏

They chose to fundraise in memory of Zoe’s Granda, Les, who received compassionate end-of-life care, which Zoe and her family were truly grateful for. 🩵

Zoe shared, “It’s been our pleasure, we’re glad to give something that’s so deserved by the charity.”

From everyone at the hospice, thank you for turning your challenge into something truly meaningful. Your support helps ensure we can continue to be there for families when they need us most.
