The three NJC unions have met to agree a joint TU Side position on 2026 pay. UNISON reported that we didn't have sufficient strike mandates in enough large employers to enable us to take action that would be likely to result in an improved offer. We, therefore took a 'reluctantly accept’ position in relation to the 2026 NJC pay offer. GMB reported they had the same position.
Unite acknowledged that with UNISON and GMB sharing this position, the formal joint TU side position is to reluctantly accept. (All three unions also noted the Employers' refusal to re-enter negotiations following our request.)
Please be advised that the Employer refers to the National Employers for Local Government Services, not individual Councils and Schools, as this is a National Pay Offer.
National Employers have been notified of the TU position, and are preparing a draft joint NJC circular, asking employers to implement the pay increase and backpay as soon as possible.
National office will be sending out an email to all affected Members, so please ensure you check your inbox for updates.
Attention will now turn to work on a pay claim for 2027 and build a strong campaign around it.
