⚓ Merchant Navy Day – 3rd September ⚓

Today, the Carningli Branch of the Royal British Legion proudly marks Merchant Navy Day.

We remember and honour the brave men and women of the Merchant Navy, past and present, who have served our country at sea — particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice during times of war and conflict.

Their courage, determination and service must never be forgotten.

We Will Remember Them. 🌺⚓

🏏 Not for us to brag… but… 🏆

Carningli Branch took on the Mayor’s Select at cricket and came away with the win — 77 runs to 58! 👏🍻

A huge thank you to everyone who joined in, played their part and helped us to victory!

And, of course, a big thank you to the Mayor and the team for organising the event and making it such an enjoyable occasion. Hats off to the 2 umpires and score keeper who kept us in check.

Great fun, great company and just a little bit of friendly competition! 😄

See you next year for the rematch! 🏏🏆

🏏 CRICKETERS WANTED! 🏏

The Carningli Branch of the Royal British Legion is putting together a cricket team to take on the Mayor’s Select this coming Sunday— and we need reinforcements! 😂

Unfortunately, with many of our members being of a certain age and athletic ability, our current team selection is based less on batting averages and more on who can still bend down far enough to pick the ball up! 🤣

So, if you fancy dusting off the whites, can vaguely remember which end of a bat to hold, and think you could survive a few overs without requiring medical assistance, we’d love to hear from you!

Absolutely no cricketing ability required — enthusiasm, a sense of humour and functioning knees would be a considerable advantage. 🏏😂

Come and help Carningli Branch take on the Mayor’s Select! Get in touch! Diolch Dan.

Today, the Carningli Branch of the Royal British Legion joins the nation in marking VJ Day – Victory over Japan Day.

We remember with gratitude and respect all those who served in the Far East during the Second World War, and we honour the courage and sacrifice of those who never returned home.

81 years on, their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We will remember them.

🚨 PUBLIC WARNING 🚨

Residents of Newport are advised to remain vigilant today as disturbing reports have emerged regarding the whereabouts of several suspects linked to the infamous Operation Seal Bay investigation of the early 1980’s.

Witnesses have reported sightings of suspicious individuals around the town, believed to be connected to a major drug-smuggling ring that operated along the Pembrokeshire coastline in the early 1980s. The gang used secluded coves, fishing vessels and quiet waterfront locations around Newport to move contraband under the cover of darkness.

The suspects are known to frequent pubs, carnival routes and other public gatherings while attempting to blend in with law-abiding citizens.

If you spot any of the wanted men featured in the attached police notice, do not approach them. Instead, keep a safe distance and report any sightings to the nearest member of the Operation Seal Bay task force aka Carningli RBL.

A reward of up to £20,000 may be available* for information leading to their capture.

*Reward payable entirely in carnival rights and local legend bragging rights.

Good luck, Newport. Keep your eyes peeled…please share 👀🚔
