📢📢 PARTICIPANT CALLOUT - GLASBREN – THE BALLAD OF JOHNNY TWO PENCILS

‘No one knows more about floors than Johnny Two Pencils... Measure on Johnny!’ - CarpetRight Marketing Campaign

tactileBOSCH are pleased to announce the next instalment in our GLASBREN outreach series, THE BALLAD OF JOHNNY TWO PENCILS.

Following the success and feedback of our last session, we’ll be returning to the disused Culverhouse Cross CarpetRight store, this time hosting a two day event for artists and imterested parties alike on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th  of July.

The first day will see us generating collective and individual scores and aktions for the space, working towards a semi-structured showing, responding to the ghosts and echoes of profit, loss, and corporate detritus.

For the second day we’ll open up the doors and stage a public performance for an audience to come and see what we’ve worked up. Details and timings of this for those would like to come and witness will be published in due course.

We want to meet performance artists, artists, art students, and other interested parties who are engaged with (or thinking about engaging with) a performance practice. We’ll convene alongside members of tactileBOSCH and our in-house performance collective SGOR - there’ll be lots of chances to work/play/spectate.

We’ll gather and work collectively and collaboratively in this one of a kind site, one that promises to offer rich points for performative departure, digging into its “environ-mental” qualities and aspects.

This activity forms part of tB25 – The Fist Inside the Velvet Glove, tactileBOSCH’s celebration of our anniversary year. GLASBREN is a session designed to bring new and known artists into tactileBOSCH, giving us chance to come together and put the world to rights...

If you’re game and would like to participate, please email [email protected] for more details – we can’t wait to hear from you.

tactileBOSCH invites you to slip a fist inside the velvet glove of their archive.

For 25 years, we’ve made ephemeral, time-based practice in abandoned spaces, now long gone, capturing moments of a Cardiff that no longer exists. The work was never built to last. Performances for one night. Rooms transformed and then abandoned. Half-remembered conversations and ideas never realised.

What remains are fragments. Photographs. Audio recordings. Video files. Projection slides. Notebooks. Posters. Hard drives and Polaroids.

For our birthday year, we are opening the Pandora’s box. Join us at Ffotogallery, where the archive will be live across formats. Watch. Listen. Flick through. Sit with a projection. Put on headphones. The material spans the life of the collective and the hidden history of Cardiff itself — the disused factories, the abandoned nightclubs, the marginal buildings we reanimated.

Grassroots practice is fragile. It leaves few traces. It operates outside the institutions that preserve history. Right now, art schools are contracting. Funding demands measurable outcomes. Independent spaces are disappearing.

The ghosts of past practice are not simply memories. They are raw material. To summon them, to handle the fragments, to listen to the lost recordings, to sit with what was almost forgotten is to ask not only what happened, but what might still happen. What futures can we build by reanimating what came before?

Add your own memories. Leave a note. Record a story, a memory, an idea, a dream for the future. Help us imagine what artist-led grassroots practice in this city could look like over the next twenty-five years.

This is not a retrospective. This is a reactivation. A site of speculation, improvisation and encounter.

Join us at Ffotogallery and experience the archive firsthand. Handle the materials. Listen back. flick through, sit with what remains and add to the stories.

Drop-in session: Saturday 16 May 2026, 12–5pm (no need to book)
Weekday access (by appointment): Wednesday 13 – Friday 15 May, during gallery opening hours (email to book)

📢 CALLING ARTISTS - NOT TO BE MISSED 📢 GLASBREN, our artist forum and outreach session, returns Saturday May 2nd as part of tB25 – The Fist Inside the Velvet Glove, tactileBOSCH’s celebration of our anniversary year. GLASBREN is a session designed to bring new and known artists into tactileBOSCH, giving us chance to come together and put the world to rights.

For this special edition of GLASBREN, we’ll be opening the doors of the now disused Culverhouse Cross CarpetRight store, offering a unique and rare opportunity to think and play performatively in a raw site that has been left relatively untouched since it closed in 2024.

We want to meet performance artists, artists, art students, and other interested parties who are engaged with (or thinking about engaging with) a performance practice. Strictly informal, we’ll convene alongside members of tactileBOSCH and our in-house performance collective SGOR - there’ll be lots of chances to work/play/spectate.

The day will be split into two parts, with a forum discussion hosted in the morning, followed by an afternoon of closed, improvised performance, responding to the echoes that linger in the site as a former place of labour, loss, and carpet. We’ll gather and work collectively and collaboratively in this one of a kind site, one that promises to offer rich points for performative departure, digging into it’s “environ-mental” qualities and aspects.

If you’re game and would like to attend, please email [email protected] for more details – we can’t wait to hear from you.

tB, in collaboration with Sgarab tapes, are thrilled to announce that French quintet BÊgayer will headline a night of celebrations as part of TB25: Fist Inside the Velvet Glove. 24th May from 7pm at Chapter Arts Centre. Ticket link in bio

One of the most extraordinary live acts in Europe today, Bégayer are a perfect distillation of the daring, interdisciplinary work which tB have always sought to bring to Wales. Waves of primordial rolling rhythms serve as bedrock for Bégayer’s alien landscapes, where the air is thick with strangled cries and rustic musics, employing lutes, lyres, bagpipes, and a mesmerising mix of 16mm visuals and frenetic lo-fi lighting. A band working tirelessly in the name of those without tradition, their raucous live shows are an ecstatic rejection of a culture of scarcity. 2024’s Évohé Bègue locates the group somewhere between such sonic landmarks as Morton Feldman, Nigerian ogene music, the post-punk pleas of New York no-wave and the laughing insolence of northern Italian folk songs. Absolutely real gear

Celyn of Gwent’s turbulent, operatic electronica could be a contemporary soundtrack for Wales’s thin places, fusing worlds, cultures and timelines separated only by that most made-up of concepts: a border. A bard for the Anthropocene, their recent run of shows has established them as a leading q***r voice in the South Wales underground, and their debut album ‘Dying and Rising’ is due for release in Summer 2026 📸

No Birds (Beth Greenhalgh and Xavier Boucherat) make monolith music via wavetable synth drones, crushed-up tape transmissions, indeterminable voices through the walls of your flat, the bells, the bells: a cold cruise through the post-industrial malaise, in loose pursuit of the giant head in the sky! FFO Sarah Davarchi, Drew McDowall, Kevin Drumm, their debut EP is forthcoming on Cardiff’s Sgarab Tapes

It's our birthday!
tactileBOSCH are excited to announce tB25: FIST IN THE VELVET GLOVE
Abandoned factories, former casinos, condemned townhouses: over the last 25 years, tactileBOSCH has transfomed all these spaces and more into sites for bold, experimental art. Since 2001 we’ve championed artists working at the edges of form and discipline, where performance, installation, sound, sculpture and social encounter collide
tB25: FIST IN THE VELVET GLOVE is a year-long programme of reconstitution. Throughout 2026 we’ll be inviting artists and audiences to reactivate moments from the tactileBOSCH archive: a chance to revisit past experiments and spark new ones. Expect open archive sessions, workshops, new commissions and raucous celebrations
To help realise these, there will be an artist call-out, giving practitioners space, time and energy to experiment, take risks and make something new. After 25 years, tactileBOSCH remains a space for bold ideas, collective imagination and unexpected encounters. Details on how you can apply to follow soon, keep your eyes peeled
Everything is at stake for artist-led culture in Wales. At a time when art schools face contraction, when policy and funding are driven by instrumental notions of ‘value’ and when cutthroat development threatens the survival of independent cultural spaces, the preservation of tactileBOSCH’s history becomes a political act. Our archive insists on the importance of play, failure, collective action and experimentation in the face of neoliberalism's narrowing of the field. We look forward to sharing it with you

Mae tactileBOSCH yn falch o gyhoeddi tB25: FIST IN THE VELVET GLOVE.
Ffatrïoedd gwag, hen gasinos, tai tref wedi’u condemnio: dros y 25 mlynedd diwethaf mae tactileBOSCH wedi trawsnewid y mannau hyn – a llawer mwy – yn safleoedd ar gyfer celf feiddgar ac arbrofol. Ers 2001 rydym wedi hyrwyddo artistiaid sy’n gweithio ar ymylon ffurf a disgyblaeth, lle mae perfformiad, gosodiad, sain, cerflunwaith a chyfarfyddiadau cymdeithasol yn cydblethu ac yn gwrthdaro.

Absolutely buzzing to say we’re doing a wee pre-crimbo rager; heavy weird sounds, untenable live art skirmishes, derranging entertainment or your money back! That’s the promise from Berlin / Athens-based duo BUDOKAN BOYS, whose bizzaro mix of off-kilter electronics, mutant dub excursions, disturbed saxophone and maddening diatribes make for one of the most unhinged live units out right now. Formed in New Orleans over ten years ago, their 2024 effort on Strategic Tape Reserve Are You Sick was one of my fave releases of the year, and this tour comes in support of their upcoming follow-up THE OOZE. Have you ever lost it all and immediately seen the funny side? Have you ever had a fundamental falling out with a dog? Has your partner ever suddenly transformed into a demon? Then the alternative mythologies of BUDOKAN BOYS might be for you!

WHAT ELSE? The fury and the folly of a life in Wales and / or elsewhere writ large by Bopa Rhys, whether in drag or not; tortured neo-chamber and avant-garde-tax-evasion strategies from Panama Papers; and a debut from shadowy interdisciplinary stooges NO BIRDS. Now help out that grassroots scene you keep saying you’re so fond of and buy a ticket right now

Just refleting back on our time away in Ireland this July, it was a fruitful and fun trip deepening connections within Ireland’s Live Art community sharing practices, building on relationships, and exploring new possibilities for collaboration.

We had a ball with Deej Fabic (Live Art Ireland) & Frances Mezzetti facilitating a workshop and performance at Milford house.
Francis Fay (Livestock), took us on a creative tour of Dublin, also to some gorgeous pubs!! and spending time with Bbeyond Belfast, Alaistair and Bronagh we created space for dialogue across generations, geographies, and disciplines. We’re grateful to everyone who joined the conversation and helped lay the groundwork for future exchange.
Thanks to for the suppprt with this trip. Cant wait to make things happen
