All Wales Forum of Parents and Carers. - AWF The national organisation that represents collectively the voice & views of LD family carers in Wales - Fforwm Cymru Gyfan

The AWF is unique among Learning Disabilities bodies in Wales in that it is the only organisation that represents nationally, collectively and solely the views of Parents and Carers of people with learning disabilities. We are an umbrella body for locally and regionally based organisations and support groups made up of parents and carers. Our wider alliance partners share a commitment in working t

o improve the rights and recognition of parents and carers and families supporting loved ones living with learning disability. The Forum is also governed by parents and carers, ensuring that our client base has a clear input into the strategic direction and core work of the organisation. The Forum prides itself on our capacity to reach out across Wales and make real changes, including influencing policy, supporting local alliance groups, engaging in innovative projects and highlighting key areas of need that are yet to be addressed fully. We achieve most of our work through the true spirit of partnership and shared resources, and we believe that in the future years this method of working will not only continue to prove effective in delivering outcomes, but it will also become essential if we are to continue to generate innovative and essential support solutions to families across Wales.

Would you like to have your say about what you believe to be the role of schools and the home in child development and behaviour?

Alma Economics has been commissioned by the Welsh Government to undertake research to explore parents’ expectations of schools and ‘home’ roles in child development and behaviour in Wales. The aim of this research is to explore what parents believe schools,
parents/carers and other services should be responsible for, and how policy and practice can better support parents to promote children’s development and access the right help.

As part of this research, Alma Economics is carrying out 60-90 minutes online focus groups via Microsoft Teams with parents and carers of school-aged learners in Wales. The purpose of these focus groups is to enable parents and carers to share their views about
what they believe to be the roles and responsibilities that should be fulfilled by schools and what should be fulfilled by them as parents and carers or by other services.

If you are interested in taking part, please complete this brief Expression of Interest form so we can contact you if you are selected:

We are hearing different views from families about the effects of the Social Media for under 16's blanket ban on and .

From experience, we know that young carers and in particular Sibling Carers can be harder to reach, due to the complexity of their roles.

We know that many organisations use social media as a vital form of communication and sharing of information with younger carers and that social media awareness campaigns are a part of national carer strategies.
