National Best Friends Day 2026

A day to celebrate friendship and spend some time with your best friend, showing them how much you appreciate them being in your life.

We all know the old saying friends are the family we choose.

Take advantage of the day and make a date, pop along to MYC and grab some time with your bestie over a cup of coffee or an ice cream. Sit in the community garden and share the peace, put the world to rights or just take advantage of the chance to catch up.

We look forward to meeting you.

World Environment Day is commemorated every year on June 5th. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the environment and how to protect our planet.

On this day, people are encouraged to do something beneficial for the Earth. They can do it alone or with friends; the important thing is to take action to make our planet a better place.

MYC'S Garden Group and volunteers plan meticulously throughout the year to ensure a wealth of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees are kept healthy and provide pollen, food, resting places and habitats for the local wildlife, supporting ecosystems and the planet.
Whilst we can't go paperless we do aim to use as little paper as possible, we use reusable and refillable cleaning materials as much as possible Our disposable cups and lids are recyclable and our wooden stirrers are biodegradable.

MYC is also very proud to be a Litter Picking Hub on behalf of Keep Wales Tidy. Litter picking is crucial because it protects wildlife from injury and ingestion, prevents toxic chemicals and microplastics from polluting soil and waterways, and fosters community pride. It improves public spaces, reduces the risk of disease and boosts mental health through outdoor activity.

If you would like to organise a litter pick of your local area either by yourself or with a group of friends or colleagues you can loan the equipment from us for free. Please email [email protected].

Book Group is 8!
From small beginnings in 2018, hosted by the Cardiff Library Service, Book Group has grown into two groups. Some of us are the founder members; some have recently joined. We’ve read together over 90 books – many of which we have enjoyed, some we have definitely not; but each one has given us a good deal to discuss in our meetings, and often a great deal of laughter!
The very first book chosen for us was ‘The Woman in Black’ by Susan Hill. During the Covid months we continued to meet on Zoom; and then outdoors, (with mandatory distancing!) choosing and purchasing the books ourselves as the library service was not operating. The one we all gave up on was ‘The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay’ by Michael Chabon: 643 pages!! Bringing us up-to-date are ‘Twelve Years a Slave’ by Solomon Northup and ‘A Passage to India’ by E M Forster.
Sharing our reactions to what we read brings different perspectives of the books. The books we read can act as guides, comfort-blankets, teachers, therapists, friends. Fiction offers a chance to escape our own worlds for a time. It sometimes challenges us, shocks us, or leaves lasting impressions.
Thank you to everyone who reads and joins us each month; to Kerrie and Amanda for plying us with coffee; and to Amanda for starting us off in the first place.
Happy birthday Book Group!
