While our VC is feeling sorry for herself in complete contempt for the many staff she put at risk of redundancy for months now, UCU and the other unions (Unite and Unison) are fighting against rushed and ill-thought plans with strong consequences for the institution, its staff and its students.

Our ballot for industrial action on the issues caused by these plans closes in 2 days. This is your last opportunity to engage in this important democratic process of your union to beat the anti-trade union laws which require a 50% turnout for the ballot to be valid - if you are not in favour of strike action, it is still important that you vote.

Post your pre-paid ballot envelope ideally by 12h today (or add a first class stamp if you’re posting later to ensure it gets there on time).

Vote now! Pleidleisiwch nawr!

Cardiff’s January announcement of plans to cut 400 academic jobs and close several departments prompted a media firestorm that heaped opprobrium on its vice-chancellor. But she also received lots of quiet support for her efforts to put the university back on an even financial keel, she tells Chris...

Our branch is balloting for industrial action over the threat of redundancies, the workload crisis and H&S concerns.

A strong mandate will give us the leverage we need to continue negotiations with university management on these issues and ensure our concerns are taken seriously.

The ballot opened on Monday and closes on the 17th Dec - you should be receiving it very soon - please post it as soon as possible and let us know that you voted so that we can remind others.

Let's show management just how angry we are!

P.S. This is separate from the national ballot over pay, which closes on Thursday - so a reminder to post that too if you haven’t done it yet.
