Every Friday, we’ll be introducing a different member of staff so you can get to know the people supporting and caring for your children a little better — and learn more about the team behind Park House. 🏠❤️

This week we have Nicola, the Team Leader

I’m the team leader at Park House. I have worked at here for 13 years, time flies when your having fun.. and we do have so much fun!! No two days are the same, I love seeing all the children happy and enjoying themselves. My favourite thing about working here is getting to know all the wonderful people who pass through the doors, from the children and young people, parents, families, and the local community groups who have helped to raise money for new toys and our new sensory garden. The support we receive within our local community is so heartwarming.

Park House is like my second home. I feel as though I am coming home to family when I arrive each day.
Outside of work, I have 2 children Megan and Luke and a beautiful Granddaughter Rouge, I love spending time with them and going on days out.

I love going to the gym, you’ll catch me there most days. Although I do spend more time talking than training!! 😃

This is wonderful and you can see the Cowbridge Male Voice Choir / Cor Meibion Y Bontfaen in action for yourselves on June 17 at the atmospheric St John Baptist Church in Cardiff. Singing alongside the Australian Welsh Male Choir, it promises to be a fantastic evening! All in aid of Action for Children

Action for Children’s Ty Robin short breaks service has been transformed to help bring joy to children and families who need it most.

A crack team of volunteers from Nationwide UK has rolled up their sleeves to support children and young people at Action for Children’s Ty Robin short breaks service in Barry, spending a day helping to refresh and improve the centre’s facilities.

The group dedicated their time to enhancing the outdoor space, preparing new planters and painting fences to create a brighter, more welcoming garden for the children who use the service. Inside the building, the team also got involved in painting, helping to freshen up the environment for families and staff. Volunteers also kindly presented Ty Robin with a £50 Dunelm gift card that allowed staff to put some finishing touches to the main room.

Our friends up in North Wales Action for Children - Arosfa Disability Short Breaks started their own “Meet the Team Monday,” and we loved the idea so much that we decided to create our own version here at Park House.

To start us off, we have me, Maddi, who runs the page here at Park House!

Hi, I’m Maddi! I’m a Residential Support Worker here at Park House and I’ve been with Action for Children for around 18 months now. I’m the one with the funny accent, so sorry in advance if you can’t understand me sometimes!

One of my favourite things about the job is taking the young people out into the community and watching them grow and achieve things. I love that every day is different and that every young person brings their own personality and uniqueness to Park House.🏡

Outside of work, I love going to the gym, being outdoors, reading, and spending time with family and friends. I’m also a big fan of music festivals and travelling the world 🍸🎶✈️

Sadly, my time at Park House will be coming to an end at the beginning of next year, as I’m planning on moving back to New Zealand with my partner. 🇳🇿🥝

This Saturday, Delyth Davies of Trinity Methodist and United Reform Church Porthcawl will be hosting a stall at the Big Summer Craft Fair and Penarth Leisure Centre raising money and awareness for Action for Children

There will be games on the stall as well as a teddy tombola - thanks to Delyth and the church for bringing this stall to this event.
