Today was one of those days that reminds me exactly why I do this job.
Being able to take Marcus Murphy and Robert Palma back into prison today, not as prisoners but as men standing in front of others sharing hope, was honestly humbling to watch.
Both of them have lived through years of addiction, prison, trauma and chaos. Both of them have had people believe in them at times when they probably didn’t believe in themselves. And today, I got to watch them become those people for somebody else.
That means something to me because I know what it feels like when somebody opens a door for you… when somebody gives you an opportunity… when somebody sees more in you than your past.
Today felt full circle for all of us.
You could see the nerves and anxiety on their faces walking in. Going back behind those gates after turning your life around is massive. But they smashed it.
Watching them walk back out afterwards with pride, confidence and a real sense of achievement honestly made me emotional. Those moments are priceless.
Those are the moments people don’t always see when they look at this kind of work.
Not the paperwork.
Not the targets.
Not the meetings.
The moments where somebody realises:
“I’m not that person anymore.”
The moments where lived experience becomes purpose.
The moments where people who were once written off become the people helping others heal.
That’s why I love working with people.
That’s why I’ll always believe in second chances.
And that’s why days like today will stay with me forever.
