🐝 We're buzzing with this week's Good News Friday from Newport Wetlands - queen Shrill Carder Bees are being seen in abundance at the moment, which is fantastic!

🐝 The Shrill Carder Bee is now found in just a few small populations, including three critical sites in South Wales; in Pembrokeshire, The Gwent Levels, and Kenfig. Known for its distinctive high-pitched buzz, the Shrill carder bee is one of the smallest species of bumblebee and has declined in recent decades due to the loss and fragmentation of vital flower rich habitats.

🥵 It’s hot out there today, Cymru - look after your local garden visitors, leaving out clean fresh tap water out for them. 💧 IMPORTANT: cleanliness is key when looking after the nature on our doorsteps - make sure you change the water daily, and clean baths *at least* once a week. ⚠️

Guys look! 👀😍🐣 we have our first Curlew chicks of the year. These precious four were found hatched by our Conservation Team at Ysbyty Ifan, North Wales.

There’s about 32 - 38 days between the hatching and fledging stage and they have been tagged so we can keep you posted on their journey over the coming weeks. 😍
