Your voices, insights and stories help us better understand the realities of being a young carer and strengthen the case for the support young carers need and deserve.

The UK Government wants to hear views on how Carer’s Allowance could be improved, including the earnings limit and how the current rules affect unpaid carers.

This is an opportunity for carers, former carers, organisations and anyone with relevant experience to share their views and help shape future policy.

Proud to Stand for Young Carers!

As a passionate campaigner, I am deeply committed to advocating for the Young Carers’ Covenant. It’s essential that we recognize and support the incredible young people who take on caregiving roles, often at the expense of their own childhood experiences and opportunities.

Young carers are unsung heroes, balancing school, social lives, and significant responsibilities at home. They deserve our attention and support, not just for their immediate needs, but for the profound impact their experiences can have on shaping future policies.

By listening to their voices and understanding their challenges, we can create a more equitable Wales for everyone. Their insights can guide us in developing initiatives that truly address the needs of young caregivers, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to thrive.

My call to action is, let’s champion the Young Carers’ Covenant and advocate for a brighter future where every young person can grow, learn, and live without the weight of caregiving alone.

Today, we were proud to join Swansea Carers Centre and Delyth Jewell MS, Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Women’s Health, as they signed the Young Carers Covenant.

The event brought together young carers, staff, partners and Welsh Government representatives to celebrate a shared commitment to improving outcomes for young carers and young adult carers across Wales.

Hearing directly from young carers about their experiences was a powerful reminder of why this work matters. Their voices are central to the Covenant and to ensuring that young carers are recognised, valued and supported in their communities.

A huge thank you to Delyth Jewell MS, Swansea Carers Centre, the young carers who shared their stories, and everyone who attended and contributed to this meaningful event. We look forward to continuing to work together to turn these commitments into action.
