Deaf Hub ( Wales ) at Cardiff Deaf Centre:
Deaf Hub ( Wales) is for and run by deaf people to reduce the impact of isolation that deaf people face on a daily basis. By 'deaf' we mean profoundly deaf people, hard of hearing, acquired deafness, deaf blind of all ages. Deaf Hub is currently going through change and is looking to develop and expand its services. Our current services are as follows:
Sports and Social club takes place every Friday evening. Everyone is welcome to attend (deaf, deafblind, hard of hearing, BSL learners). Many sports and social events are organised by the social club with special events taking place throughout the year, mostly, on Saturdays. Popular events include the Coffee Mornings, Afternoon tea parties, barbecues, Halloween disco, Easter Egg Hunt, treasure Hunt, bingo etc. Youth club for young deaf people aged 11-16 takes place every Thursday evening during school term times 6.30pm-9.00pm. Church for deaf people takes place every Friday in Cardiff Deaf Centre's chapel. The services are conducted in British Sign Language and anyone is welcome to attend. Craft Club (sewing, knitting and crocheting) is on every other Tuesday evening from 7pm-9pm. Walking group takes place on the third Sunday bimonthly in various locations. We also organise various information evenings on health issues, PACT, services etc. From September 2014 there will be BSL level 2 classes delivered by Sarona Training at Cardiff Deaf Centre. Trustees/volunteers represent Deaf Hub (Wales) at various meetings such as Cardiff Council User Forum, Health meetings, Improving access to the Theatre etc. Deaf Hub is available to hire for small and large meetings. There are kitchen facilities available, powerpoint access, wifi access, a bar, lunches can be provided and car parking facilities.
