It’s Carers' Week, a reminder that many people are quietly balancing work with caring for someone close to them.

For employers, that often means hidden pressure on staff, and a real risk of losing valuable skills and experience.

With the right support, working carers can stay and thrive at work, strengthening inclusion, retention and performance across your organisation.

To help, we’ve created a Carers in the Workplace toolkit with practical ideas, examples and resources.

Discover how to better support carers in your workforce this Carers' Week: https://www.bitc.org.uk/toolkit/supporting-carers-in-the-workplace/?utm_source=facebook_cymru&utm_medium=organic_social&utm_content=bitc_wellbeing_carersweek_toolkit_20260608

As conversations around personal beliefs continue to shape workplace dynamics, many employers are asking how they can support people to express themselves while maintaining respect and cohesion.

At our recent Business Response Forum on personal beliefs at work, our members came together to explore this challenge through expert insight and practical discussion.

These member-only forums provide a space to navigate complex, real-world issues, offering guidance, shared experience and actionable support.

Through conversations like these, we’re helping businesses respond thoughtfully to the issues shaping today’s workplaces and wider society.

Your peers are already in the room, testing, thinking, sharing what they’re seeing and preparing for what comes next. Don't miss the next one! Join us: https://www.bitc.org.uk/join?utm_source=facebook_cymru&utm_medium=organic_social&utm_content=bitc_membership_businesseventforum_joinus_20260518

📉 The recent Iran energy shocks showed how quickly external disruption can hit business operations and costs.

For many organisations, climate and energy risks run deeper than they appear, often hidden in supply chains, pricing models, or market structures that are out of businesses' control.

✅ Our climate risk and opportunity mapping helps you see where your organisation is genuinely exposed, separate what you can act on from what you need to plan around, and build a practical path to resilience.

This Mental Health Awareness Week is about action, not just awareness.

For employers, that starts with the people who support everyone else – line managers.

Our latest blog by BITC Advisory Programme Manager Michel Ma, explores how organisations can move beyond individual “resilience” to:

✅ Support line managers as well as the teams they lead
✅ Tackle workload, work design and culture as drivers of mental health
✅ Use BITC’s Workwell Model to create healthier, more sustainable work for everyone

If your organisation wants to turn this week’s theme into lasting change, please read the blog and explore our wellbeing resources: https://www.bitc.org.uk/blog/take-action-to-support-the-people-who-support-everyone-else/?utm_source=facebook_cymru&utm_medium=organic_social&utm_content=bitc_wellbeing__mentalhealthawarenessweek_blog_20260511

This week we wrapped up the final Career Talk sessions at John Frost High School via the — and what an inspiring session it was for Year 9 learners.

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water's Helena Hopkins showcased the huge range of roles in the water industry and led a hands on incident response activity.

Wales & West Utilities’ Scot Edwards and Kate Wheeler shared their career journeys and guided students through a powerful self compassion exercise.

Business in the Community’s Alassim Mohammed encouraged students to explore what they don’t want to do as much as what they do — ending with a high energy business themed word search challenge.

A massive thank you to Helena, Scot, Kate and Alassim for delivering such engaging, meaningful sessions.

These talks are part of BITC’s Career Education Programme, helping young people broaden their horizons and raise their aspirations.

If your business wants to support career education in Newport, we’d love to hear from you.

📸 At last year’s inaugural Pride of Place Summit at Aviva Studios in Manchester, leaders from business, government, and the voluntary and community sector came together to focus on one shared goal: driving long-term, place-based regeneration in communities across the UK.

Our Pride of Place programme unites people from all walks of life around a vision for a better future, nurturing collaboration, sustained investment and self-belief to drive action so that millions can thrive in a place they call home.

📅 In just under a month, on 2 June, we will build on that momentum as partners come together again for the Pride of Place Summit: Building Thriving Places Through Long-Term Partnership, exploring practical action on the economy and skills, pride and community, and leadership and partnership.

📍 Pride of Place is now active in 19 places across the UK, working with local stakeholders to build a shared vision, identify their own challenges and innovate their own solutions.

What a transformation!

In just over five hours, the volunteers cleared the space, built a bug hotel, fixed trellis, planted colourful flowers, and added sensory elements that invite children to explore nature in new ways. Their work has created a space filled with colour, texture, sound and curiosity.

Thank you to Katie Nicholson, Ronnie Gallagher and Polly Watson for giving your time, energy and kindness to support a community organisation that empowers families through role play learning and meaningful experiences.

Business in the Community’s was proud to help make this connection — a reminder of how powerful business support can be when directed into local communities.

As Jo Baldock, Managing Director at Role Play Lane, shared:
“Thank you so much to Network Rail and the three volunteers. The garden is now being enjoyed by children, families and young people in our community… it’s a wonderful example of what can happen when businesses and community organisations work together to create lasting impact.”

One family commented: "Wow! This looks amazing. My boys and I love the sights, sounds and smells. It is such a beautiful and tranquil space."
