Supporting SEND children and young people to stay safe online for schools support staff – Thursday 19 November, 4pm – 5.30pm
Drawing on the latest research, this webinar will explore the online risks and challenges facing SEND children and young people in today’s digital world. The session will examine the role of schools in supporting online safety for SEND learners, including key safeguarding responsibilities, statutory requirements, and practical approaches to promoting safer online behaviours. It will also explore current debates around mobile phones, social media, digital wellbeing, and the proposed regulations to ban social media for under-16s.

The session will be delivered by Karl Hopwood, an independent online safety expert and former primary headteacher with extensive experience supporting schools, families, and education professionals.

Challenging Misogyny, Sexism and Sexual Harassment in Schools and FE Colleges – Training for School Support Staff
Thursday 15 October, 4pm – 5.30pm

UK Feminista is delivering a 90 minute interactive online session designed to help school and FE support staff recognise, respond to and challenge misogyny, sexism and sexual harassment. The training explores the scale and impact of these issues in education, the rise of online misogynistic content, effective reporting practices, and why a whole school approach is essential.

Open to schools support staff working with KS2 pupils and above, as well as FE support staff, this session is ideal for anyone looking to strengthen safeguarding and promote a culture of respect across their setting.

As the school term ends across Cymru and the Senedd begins its summer recess, many school support staff face another summer stretching low pay across the year.

Senedd Members receive a full annual salary. Many school support staff have salaries based on around 39 working weeks, then spread across 12 months.

Term-time-only pay traps many skilled and essential workers in poverty. Support staff can win change by building a stronger UNISON in every school.
