Vision
Connected and thriving communities in Lesotho and Wales

Purpose
Our purpose is to facilitate sustainable projects, partnerships and relationships which have a positive impact on communities in Lesotho and Wales

About Dolen
Since 1985 Dolen Cymru has been forging friendships and partnerships between Lesotho and Wales. Through these links we bring lives and skills tog

ether, bringing communities in Wales and Lesotho together creating momentum. Our teachers give whole communities new tools and understanding, which they in turn share with other communities. Our specialists in sanitation guide others in better ways to maintain hygiene. Young and old improve their skills in sport, care of the environment and their abilities to improve their communities. Participants in our programmes gain different perspectives, different ways of thinking and different ways of doing things. They share these new approaches and skills with the schools, clinics and communities they’re based in. Where we work
Located in the south-eastern region of Africa, the Kingdom of Lesotho is surrounded on all sides by the Republic of South Africa. All of its territory is above 1400 metres, meaning it is the country with the highest low point in the world. Many people live in in rugged, mountainous terrain, accessible only by horseback or foot. Lesotho is one of the poorest countries in the world. This beautiful country faces considerable economic and social problems with over half (57%) of its 2 million population living in extreme poverty. (World Bank Data) Its GDP per capita was just $1,400, in 2017, according to the IMF. This ranks it at 150 out of 186 countries. Lesotho has one of the highest rates of HIV in the world. Prevalence is just under one-in-four (23%), the second highest in the world after eSwatini, according to the CIA World Factbook. The HIV epidemic in Lesotho was declared a national disaster in 2000. Life expectancy in Lesotho is just 58.9 years, placing it 221 out of 227 countries. How do we make a difference
• We establish and nurture partnerships within and between Lesotho and Wales to co-create solutions to unmet needs and aspirations
• We share knowledge, experience and expertise
• We work collaboratively to implement initiatives as equitably as we can
• We achieve sustainable change through improved understanding and capability
• We improve the life opportunities by enhancing literacy and numeracy, improving health, reducing gender inequality and maintaining a safe environment
• In order to develop and deliver these programmes, funding must be secured, both from grants and donations.
• In order to secure these funding streams we must effectively communicate our work clearly showing the impact. Our Values
Partnership
We are an organisation built on country, community, organisational and people level partnerships between Wales and Lesotho. Our partnerships are based on solidarity, mutual understanding and respect, and friendships. Collaboration and inclusiveness
We believe in shared ownership and working together to create fair, sustainable change. In particular we believe in listening to the needs and preferences of communities and the enabling of Basotho people in programmes that aim to address poverty in Lesotho. Responsibility
We are committed to responsible practices in our activities and caring for the people we work with. This includes protecting people from harm (that may arise from our activities) and ensuring we respect people’s dignity. We will avoid unnecessary harm to the local and global environment arising from our activities

Responsiveness
We aim to be continuously learning, about each other, global issues and the work we are doing. We are willing to adapt to change and we are open and responsive to new ideas, needs and preferences

Diversity
We value and celebrate each other’s differences, cultures, traditions and languages. Recognition
We make sure we show our appreciation of the contribution of our staff and volunteers and wish to encourage more individuals and communities to be involved in our work

Funding
In order to develop and deliver these programmes, funding must be secured, both from grants and donations. In order to secure these funding streams we must effectively communicate our work clearly showing the impact. Develop and nurture existing and new partnerships to develop programmes which satisfy the criteria pillars and our values. Diben
Ein diben yw hwyluso prosiectau, partneriaethau a pherthnasoedd cynaliadwy sy'n cael effaith gadarnhaol ar gymunedau yn Lesotho a Chymru. Hanes Dolen
Ers 1985 mae Dolen Cymru wedi bod yn meithrin cyfeillgarwch a phartneriaethau rhwng Lesotho a Chymru. Drwy'r cysylltiadau hyn rydym yn dod â bywydau a sgiliau at ei gilydd, gan ddod â chymunedau yng Nghymru a Lesotho at ei gilydd i greu momentwm. Mae ein hathrawon yn rhoi offer a dealltwriaeth newydd i gymunedau cyfan, y maent hwy yn eu tro yn eu rhannu â chymunedau eraill. Mae gweithwyr iechyd proffesiynol yn hyfforddi gweithwyr iechyd proffesiynol a all wedyn hyfforddi eraill. Mae ein harbenigwyr mewn glanweithdra yn arwain eraill mewn ffyrdd gwell i gynnal hylendid. Mae'r hen a'r ifanc yn gwella eu sgiliau mewn chwaraeon, gofalu am yr amgylchedd a'u gallu i wella eu cymunedau. Mae cyfranogwyr yn ein rhaglenni yn ennill safbwyntiau gwahanol, gwahanol ffyrdd o feddwl a gwahanol ffyrdd o wneud pethau. Maent yn rhannu'r dulliau a'r sgiliau newydd hyn gyda'r ysgolion, y clinigau a'r cymunedau y maent wedi'u lleoli ynddynt. Lle rydym yn gweithio? Wedi'i leoli yn rhanbarth de-ddwyreiniol cyfandir yr Affrig, mae Teyrnas Lesotho wedi'i hamgylchynu ar bob ochr gan Weriniaeth De Affrica. Mae ei holl diriogaeth yn uwch na 1400 metr, sy'n golygu mai dyma'r wlad sydd â'r pwynt isel uchaf yn y byd. Mae llawer o bobl yn byw mewn tirwedd garw, mynyddig, sydd dim ond yn hygyrch ar gefn ceffyl neu ar droed. Lesotho yw un o'r gwledydd tlotaf yn y byd. Mae'r wlad brydferth hon yn wynebu problemau economaidd a chymdeithasol sylweddol gyda dros hanner (57%) o'i 2 filiwn o boblogaeth yn byw mewn tlodi eithafol (Data Banc y Byd). Yn 2017, yn ôl yr IMF, dim ond $1,400 y pen oedd ei CMC. Mae hyn yn ei graddio yn safle 150 allan o 186 o wledydd. Mae gan Lesotho un o'r cyfraddau uchaf o HIV yn y byd. Yn ôl Llyfr Ffeithiau'r Byd y CIA mae nifer yr achosion ychydig o dan un o bob pedwar (23%), yr ail uchaf yn y byd ar ôl eSwatini. Cafodd yr epidemig HIV yn Lesotho ei ddatgan yn drychineb genedlaethol yn 2000. Dim ond 58.9 mlynedd yw disgwyliad oes yn Lesotho, gan ei osod yn safle 221 allan o 227 o wledydd. Sut yr ydyn ni’n gwneud gwahaniaeth?
• Sefydlwn a meithrin partneriaethau o fewn a rhwng Lesotho a Chymru i gyd-greu atebion i anghenion a dyheadau nas diwallwyd.
• Rydym yn rhannu gwybodaeth, profiad ac arbenigedd.
• Rydym yn cydweithio i weithredu mentrau mor deg ag y gallwn.
• Rydym yn cyflawni newid cynaliadwy drwy well dealltwriaeth a gallu.
• Rydym yn gwella cyfleoedd bywyd drwy wella llythrennedd a rhifedd, gwella iechyd, lleihau anghydraddoldeb rhwng y rhywiau a chynnal amgylchedd diogel.
• Er mwyn datblygu a chyflwyno'r rhaglenni hyn, rhaid sicrhau cyllid, o grantiau a rhoddion.
• Er mwyn sicrhau'r ffrydiau ariannu hyn rhaid inni gyfleu ein gwaith yn glir gan ddangos yn glir yr effaith. Ein Gwerthoedd
Partneriaeth
Rydym yn sefydliad sydd wedi'i adeiladu ar bartneriaethau rhwng Cymru a Lesotho ar lefel gwlad, cymuned, sefydliad a phobl. Mae ein partneriaethau'n seiliedig ar undod, cyd-ddealltwriaeth a pharch, a chyfeillgarwch. Cydweithio a chynhwysiant
Credwn mewn cydberchnogaeth a chydweithio i greu newid teg a chynaliadwy. Yn benodol, credwn mewn gwrando ar anghenion a dewisiadau cymunedau a galluogi’r Basotho, drwy’r rhaglenni, i fynd i'r afael â thlodi yn Lesotho. Cyfrifoldeb
Rydym wedi ymrwymo i arferion cyfrifol yn ein gweithgareddau a gofalu am y bobl rydym yn gweithio gyda nhw. Mae hyn yn cynnwys amddiffyn pobl rhag niwed (a allai godi o'n gweithgareddau) a sicrhau ein bod yn parchu urddas pobl. Byddwn yn osgoi difrod diangen i'r amgylchedd lleol a byd-eang sy'n deillio o'n gweithgareddau

Ymatebolrwydd
Ein nod yw dysgu'n barhaus, am ein gilydd, materion byd-eang a'r gwaith rydym yn ei wneud. Rydym yn barod i addasu i newid ac rydym yn agored ac yn ymatebol i syniadau, anghenion a dewisiadau newydd. Amrywiaeth
Rydym yn gwerthfawrogi ac yn dathlu gwahaniaethau, diwylliannau, traddodiadau ac ieithoedd ein gilydd. Cydnabyddiaeth
Byddwn yn sicrhau ein bod yn dangos ein gwerthfawrogiad o gyfraniad ein staff a'n gwirfoddolwyr ac yn dymuno annog mwy o unigolion a chymunedau i gymryd rhan yn ein gwaith.
