During Care Home Open Week, we’re shining a light on the incredible nursing staff working in Wales’ independent health and social care sector.

Meet our two previous RCN Wales Nurse of the Year Independent Sector Award winners:
✨ Kiera Jones MBE, Lead Nurse at Skanda Vale Hospice – a champion of person centred palliative care, fundraiser, Soul Midwife and tireless advocate for equity in end of life support
✨ Kevin Jones, Registered Manager at Bryn Marl Nursing Home – a leader who puts dignity first, embraces innovation and builds meaningful connections across generations and communities.

The recognition they received through their awards helped open up new opportunities to share their insights – from contributing to debates, discussions and RCN publications to receiving media training and helping raise the profile of independent health and social care nursing in Wales.

Know someone like Kiera or Kevin? Someone whose compassion, leadership or innovation deserves recognition?

🌟 Nominations for the RCN Wales Nurse of the Year Awards 2026 are open and you can nominate in the Independent Sector category online: https://bit.ly/43NLjUZ
