🏠 Cardiff Council is proposing to renew its Additional Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) Licensing Scheme in Plasnewydd for a further five years, subject to public consultation.

If approved by Cabinet, a two-month public consultation will give residents, landlords, letting agents and other interested parties the opportunity to have their say through an online questionnaire or written submission.

The scheme, first introduced in Plasnewydd in 2014, allows the Council to license and inspect smaller HMOs that fall outside national licensing requirements. Its aim is to improve housing standards, tenant safety and property management.

📊 Since 2021:

• 878 properties have been licensed under the scheme
• 84% of inspected properties required improvements to meet the required standards
• 39% reduction in serious housing hazards
• 76% reduction in properties needing fire safety improvements
• A major decline in the use of prohibition orders for unsafe accommodation

The scheme has made a real difference in improving housing conditions and safety for tenants in Plasnewydd. We have seen significant reductions in serious housing hazards, fire safety concerns and unsafe accommodation.

📢 If the consultation goes ahead, residents, landlords, tenants and letting agents will be able to share their views.

At the Cardiff Foodbank depot after dropping off the Roath donations from our summer campaign. 💚

Across Cardiff, the Great Summer Street Collection saw an incredible 3,239.8kg of food and £964.59 donated - enough food to help around 330 people.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our community collections and helped make them such a success.

Summer can be a quieter time for food donations, while many families face extra financial pressure when school-based support, such as breakfast clubs and free school meals, isn’t available.

Your generosity has made a real difference at a time when it’s needed most. Thank you for supporting our community. 🙏🏽
