Collaborating with 2nd year BA Animation students at Cardiff Metropolitan University on an experimental module exploring the integration between music and image.
The project took place over six weeks and this is the second time the module has been developed within CULTVR, with students creating a collective fulldome film as the final outcome.
As part of the process, students research, develop, and pitch their ideas before responding visually to sound through animation to a composition by composer Dan Soley. Each group responded to a different section of the audio, creating around 15 seconds of animation each.
The process began simply:
listen with your eyes shut.
What is the colour of the music?
What shapes appear?
What movement does sound create?
The result is a chain of visual interpretations, abstract, emotional, rhythmic, and completely individual, all connected through the same composition. A collaborative exploration of how music can generate image, movement, and atmosphere through animation and immersive fulldome storytelling.
