Film screening at Oasis next Monday! We're kicking off Refugee Week with a showing of 4 short films: 'Island of Strangers'

Island of Strangers celebrates communities coming together across social and cultural divides and won the Press Award for Excellence in Diversity. The series was created for the Mirror by Real Britain columnist Ros Wynne-Jones, filmmaker John Domokos and writer Claire Donnelly. The series is also a finalist for the 2026 Orwell Prize for Exposing Britain’s Social Evils, with the winner announced on 25 June.

In the lead up to Refugee Week (15th-21st of June), we're thinking about simple acts that we can all do to collectively build courage.

Quentin Blake has provided some beautiful images that you can check out on the Refugee Week website. We'd love to hear which of them inspire you.

In that spirit, we're inviting our community to watch a series of short films together to kick off Refugee Week on Monday the 15th of June. We're really excited to see these award shortlisted (finalist TBC) films ourselves and would love for you to join us.

Keep an eye out for the film announcement and ticket release. All proceeds go to the community and services offered at Oasis, made particularly visible during Refugee Week, but essential all year round.

See you there!

Fundraiser spotlight!

A huge thank you to Jackie, who raised essential funds for Oasis last week. Through rocky terrain and many uphill battles, she succeeded in walking 100km along the Jurassic Coast. This took her an incredible 28 hours and 14 minutes, and we couldn't appreciate her efforts more because...

Jackie's target was £250... and she ended up raising £665!

Fundraising initiatives like this are invaluable to the work we do at Oasis supporting refugees and asylum seekers. Every little bit can make the world of difference.

If you're interested in this type of fundraising, we have the opportunity for you - we're currently recruiting for the Cardiff Half!

To sign up, visit our website at: www.oasiscardiff.org/fundraise-for-us

For other fundraising ideas (like Jackie's!), please feel free to get in touch via Facebook or Instagram.

Thank you Jackie! We appreciate you!

Oasis is looking for a Programme Lead (Food) to join our team. In this role, you will have full operational responsibility for the Plat Mawr project, which includes overseeing the daily community free lunch service and cooking workshops. You will line-manage two Kitchen Officers and supervise kitchen and cafe volunteers, handling everything from induction training and scheduling shifts to monthly performance appraisals, as well as stepping into the kitchen directly during staff absences. Your day-to-day duties will involve managing weekly food and cleaning budgets, tracking expenditure, ordering inventory, and physically collecting food donations. To maintain the project’s 5-star food hygiene rating, you will enforce rigorous food safety standards, manage deep cleaning schedules and serve as the main point of contact for maintenance contractors. Additionally, you will drive the food and cafe elements of Oasis’s 10-year strategy, capture evaluation data for funders, coordinate project communications, and proactively support client safeguarding.

Rebeca recently turned 30! Who is Rebeca, you say?
She is a kind and generous human who asked for donations for Oasis instead of birthday presents. She raised a whopping £510, and we couldn't be more grateful. Diolch yn fawr iawn/ Thank you very much Rebeca and Happy Birthday from all of us at Oasis. 💜

If you would like to fundraise for Oasis (and it doesnt have to be the Cardiff Half Marathon...), we'd love to hear from you. DM us or email [email protected]. You can also donate here https://www.oasiscardiff.org/appeal/donate

Serving our community starts with how we serve one another. ✨
In the charity world, the to-do list never truly ends. There is always another person to help, another project to fund and another mountain to move. But yesterday, the Oasis team decided to let the mountains wait for an hour.

Yesterday was about coming together and sharing a meal. A delicious Middle Eastern breakfast!

Working at Oasis is a gift, but it can also be heavy. Yesterday wasn't about the what or the how; it was about the who. It was about finding a moment of stillness to remember that we aren't just colleagues; we’re a community.

We headed back to work with full hearts (and very full tummies), ready to give our best because we took a moment to be our best together. 💛
