Shout out to Shanon at Thompsons Solicitors and UNISON Cymru staff for joining us and making today a great success.

Our Denise, doing what she does best! Stepping up and speaking out in the hope for better opportunities and services across the entire care landscape within Wales. Read in full using the link detailed below. Thank you D, we appreciate you enormously 🤗

Good care depends on time, resources and properly funded services.

“I’ve worked in adult social care for over 30 years. Over that time, I’ve seen services steadily eroded by chronic underfunding.

“Every day I see the difference good care can make, and the strain when services don’t have enough time or resources. Staff are exhausted, services are stretched, and organisations are being forced to cut back.

“Colleagues are being made redundant, and many are leaving for better pay in retail. That shows just how undervalued care work has become. We do highly skilled, compassionate work, yet are too often underpaid and overlooked.

“Social care is the backbone of the NHS. Without it, hospitals and health services simply cannot cope. This is not sustainable.

“Wales needs a better funding settlement to protect jobs, value the workforce, keep
services alive, and make sure care is about dignity, not just survival. The people who rely on care, and those of us who provide it, cannot wait any longer.”

Denise Thomas, support worker, adult social care.

This International Day for the Abolition of Slavery we focus on modern slavery and migrant workers.

Migrant workers are especially vulnerable to exploitation. The health and care visa ties workers to their employers, and cases of modern day slavery are on the rise

Ymlaen Forward Branch has nominated Christina McAnea for re-election as general secretary. We’ve seen how she has delivered for you, for this branch, and for our union – growing UNISON in strength and influence. Christina has the experience, skills and commitment to keep improving how our union works for you, not for any narrow political faction. Her pledges are clear: fight for fair pay, pensions, jobs, rights and services; put resources where you need them most; spend subs wisely; hold governments to account; and keep equality at UNISON’s heart.
