Can you help us make Wales a great place to grow older?

Age Cymru is seeking a full-time Project Officer with strong communication and interpersonal skills to support the HOPE Project (Helping Others Participate and Engage). Working closely with local Age Connects and Age Cymru partners, you will help deliver independent advocacy for people aged 50 and over and carers across Wales. This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027.

You will help develop advocacy services across the region and deliver the HOPE Project’s early-intervention objectives, enabling older people to understand their options, express their views and have a stronger voice in decisions that affect them.

The HOPE Project helps older people and carers to participate in decisions, make informed choices and have their voices heard. It also enables them to share their experiences and develop their skills and knowledge, while raising awareness of advocacy and the support available.

As part of the HOPE regional project team, you will recruit, train and manage volunteers who support older people. You will also maintain regular contact with older people and carers, receive and assess advocacy referrals, and allocate suitable referrals to volunteers. The role calls for empathy, sound judgement and an understanding of the needs of older people and carers.

This is a hybrid role combining home and office working, with occasional travel across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. Your contractual office base will be agreed with the successful candidate, and applications are welcomed from people living across these areas. The successful candidate must have access to a car for business use; eligible travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Byddwch hefyd yn cadw mewn cysylltiad rheolaidd â phobl hŷn a gofalwyr, yn derbyn ac yn asesu atgyfeiriadau eiriolaeth, ac yn dyrannu atgyfeiriadau addas i wirfoddolwyr. What rights matter as we grow older? All of our rights matter! 💙

This International Day of Older Persons, we're proud to have teamed up with Age International to share what older people in the UK and around the world told us about the rights that matter most to them.

Following the landmark decision to begin drafting a new United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of Older Persons, it's so important that older people's voices are heard and included.

So, we asked older people in the UK and around the world one question: what rights matter as we grow older?

Today, we're proud to launch our new report with Age UK, All Our Rights: Hearing from Older People Across the World. We share what older people say about the rights that matter most to them, from dignity and equality to healthcare, independence and inclusion.

It's clear that older people must be at the heart of this new human rights treaty. Nothing about us, without us.

Heddiw, rydym yn falch o lansio ein hadroddiad newydd gydag Age UK, Ein Holl Hawliau: Clywed gan Bobl Hŷn Ledled y Byd. Rydym yn rhannu'r hyn y mae pobl hŷn yn ei ddweud am yr hawliau sydd bwysicaf iddynt, o urddas a chydraddoldeb i ofal iechyd, annibyniaeth a chynhwysiant.

Where will your Big Step take you? 👟

The Big Step might be one challenge, but everyone's journey will look a little different.

Maybe you'll explore somewhere new. Maybe you'll discover a favourite local route. Or perhaps your usual dog walk will suddenly become part of your 185-mile challenge!

And if you're only just signing up, there's still time to get involved! 💙

The challenge is to cover 185 miles' worth of steps, which is the length of Wales, by the end of October, while raising money to support older people across Wales.

For a £20 donation when you sign up, you'll receive a T-shirt to get you started and a medal to celebrate finishing the challenge.
